I have a 96 JDM DC2 for the past year or so. Overall impressions are - very fast for a 1.8, well built, handling is excellent, ride is fine at 40mph+ but pretty harsh below this (Irish roads do not help), cheap to run bar insurance, noisy, unfairly identified over here as a boy-racer motor due to rear spolier I reckon. Common problems with the DC2 can include heavy oil consumption, synchro loss requiring gearbox rebuild, moaning LSD's & sticking brake callipers. Rust seems to affect a lot of the UKDM models, but not many imports - no need to grit the roads in Japan.
Engines can last 150k+ miles if well serviced. Notchy gearbox / LSD whine can often be cured by changing the transmission fluid - made a hell of a difference on mine.
Check the oil twice a week and full service every 3-5k miles and she should be fine. They require effort to drive fast but are rewarding cars. Probably looking at replacing it with a Toyota Altezza this year before our bloody roads shake it / me to bits. Have a couple of pics of mine on an email but can't upload them.
