dont forget paraguay are a semi decent team, it was a hard first game to come out and win

like venomturbo says, england would be a fucking awesome team, probably one of the best in the world if they didnt do this self destruct thing

Typical of a goal keeper when the games not going as well as they'd hope imo.

The idea of spreading it wide is to draw the Paraguayan midfielders out wide, if the wide players go for the ball and the midfielders stay sat in th middle then you pass it inside and immediately go back out wide, but further up the pitch, because the wide player that was marking say Beckham or Joe Cole, has been dragged 10-20 yards out of his own half, hoofing it upto Crouch, with nobody dropping off him to receive it after he nods it down is pointless, which is why the Owen sub was negative, he would have been better bringig J Cole off in the first place and replacing him with Downing, unless Owen was a tad tired, who knows, England shouldn't adopt the "well its 3 points so no bother" attitude because it needs addressing now before the Trinidad game, they are a good counter attacking team from what I saw last night and although they aren't the best ranked team, there's very little difference in a any team going forward in the world cup.

First 10 minutes England were good then it looked like they just sat back and defended a 1 - 0 lead

Whoever said it was spot on, best form of defense is attack, if the balls in there half they cant score (as easily )

Everybody does realise we actually won the game yesterday?? Or has that fact passed you by??

People in this country are far too quick to criticise the England team. Last week were nailed on to win the competition, now everyone is saying we dont have a chance because we didnt go on to win 4-0 yesterday

End of the day you have to look at what we actuall did, not what we didnt do. We played a semi-decent South American team, and WON 1-0, picking up no injuries, and without really having to try that hard. Sven got it spot on IMO, yes he could have said to them go out and get 3 or 4, but what would that have acheived, you still only get 3 points. It was red hot yesterday and I for one wouldnt want to see the team running round like idiots and exhausting themselfs when it wasn't really neccersery to do so, would much rather them save there energy for the games to come. Remember some of these players have played 50+ games this season.

Would have been nice to win by more, but end of the day a win is a win, and if we win every game 1-0 from now to the Final, I for one will be a very happy man
