saxo vts is a gd option tho. quick in standrd form non egr valve model, handle brilliant n lightweight. that not perfect for a track car?? altho i agree saxos are piss n id never have one either...

a stripped saxo vts would be the best option imo. early one, be great, just add buckets, harnesses and a cage all in good time, do harnesses first, then buckets then cage. be great. handle well, cheap enough to get new panels for it etc......

106 seem to go for more money tho.
the vtr is also a good car they use them in the 750 race series..... mark at racing developments built one, 1.6 8v with dta i think.
if you can go for the vtr get the rallye gear box for it. meant to be great fun then when stripped

put an exhaust (inc manifold) and induction kit on them and they get 130-140bhp, ebay will supply cheap exhaust and filter......

205 1.9 gti, 1.6gti gearbox + stripped interior is well within your budget. maybe sell the interior and get a pugsport exhaust and intake aswell

a non egr valve vts comes with 130 out of the box. have a few mates here with them n they respond really well to breathing mods. one mate had manifold decat full system n induction kit, he was rolling roaded here at 147bhp

another mate had one n his was eating loads of things i didnt think it would. dragged with 2 vtecs up the strip n beat one n got beaten by the other, was eating mapped tdi golfs, 325i sports (altho i know they r not quick) cant mind wot else but was eating everything.. his was the same manifold, decta system n i think the timing was adjusted on it when he got a belt fitted to it...

106/saxo will cost you as much as the Corsa imo!!! Get a 205 & stick to a budget or just forget the whole idea completely.

Not in so much buying the car terms, i think you will be more tempted to spend on a 106/saxo to better it than you will with a 205. 205's a handy track weapon in standard form

and its only got 8 valves, so its less likely to go wrong i suppose
and they both cost the same to insure, the 1.9 GTi is clearly the better option

I think almost any car will see itself round a track pretty well pending on what money is thrown at it, the key for cheap amature occasional fun is to get something thats not going to need or have the temptation to spend rediculous amounts of money on it. Thats when it stops being fun....see aK for proof!!
