yes but with being employed I pay 40% higher rate tax. being self employed I can claim VAT back, put loads of things down on expenses so I dont pay tax on them. for example,
If I buy a set of tyres for £200 whilst im employed, I will have been taxed before I get the £200 to pay for them so I would need to earn around £260 before tax to pay for them.
being employed I pay tax AFTER im paid the money. so i would claim that the tyres were for a vehicle I use for work. so I wouldnt pay tax on the money I earn to pay for them!
same for clothes, computers, camers... anything that i can claim that has been purchased for my job. I am also VAT registered so I can claim the vat back as well

Called a meeting with the boss today and said that I am going to leave at the end of the month due to the petty behaviour and treatment of certain senior staff in personell. he agreed that I was right and asked what I wanted.
Got what I wanted, working from home, self employed, keep my basic salary as a retainer and full commission.
cant wait to work from home, no getting up at 8am, no 30 mile drive to work, no clocking in and out, no 40% tax to pay, no boss, no silly office politics.

good result fella, though working from home isnt always a good idea, you usually end up giving it a miss and doing something else with the day
But atleast you got what you wanted, does show the company values you being there
