i think the astra vxr is yet another car for people in suits to think they own the road in a race car. I would almost class it with the CTR TBH

The stat's on the subaru site don't look too different. Do the 2.5 subaru's still need servicing every time you go to the shops? The astra is probably the quicker car once it's moving, but only in a straight line, and it'll be a 'mare to get the power down compared to the WRX.
The WRX is the better car, no doubt about it, but the higher running costs both in petrol and servicing, and the higher purchase price are what put alot of people off.

its cheaper to buy than the Astra, and in gear speeds are better, according to Autocar magazine, as well as the 0-60 and braking times.
I wouldnt have one though.

Retail on their site is just over £20k, so more expensive than the astra, going of RRP's.
Surprised about the in gear times though, would have thought less power, only 5 gears, and 4wd drag would have slowed it down. That said, power is nothing without Traction, which the Astras re-known for having little of
Don't think i'd have the WRX either, being bottom of the range, they just look a bit "cheap" .

im seeing a trend in cars of this type recently.
Heavy
ridiculous amounts of torque/bhp for a FWD
premium prices
hark on about yer in gear times, 0-60 etc etc then go out in the real world and try and put the power down, especially in a country where 5 months of the year the road is covered in slippery shite.

There were 8 of us parked in that car park(tesco) and three of the drivers went to get some munchies before we convoyed to southend. Some boys playing football in the car park hit my mates escort which had just had a respray so he had a go at them and prob went OTT, well the boys disappeared so we thought nothing of it, So there were 3 cars left with no drivers (vxr, scooby, and punto) About 20 mins later a massive group of people around 20 armed with everything under the sun came out of the park and started running for us, 5 of us managed to boot it off out of the car park, But the 3 cars were left there, vxr got smashed up and had pickaxe holes in bonnet, scooby got same fate and had its tyres slashed. Punto was left alone. When the drivers came out after hearing us boot it off they got chased with knives and ran into tesco. All pretty shook up and the police did sweet fa didnt even take all of the witnesses names and numbers etc Then a car came over while the police were there and stopped near each of our cars that didnt get smashed then drove off so we are all slightly worried but what can you do
Apologies to markm for the essay!
I feel sick reading that a would be on the hunt for the bastards to run them over

Personally would never pay £19,000 for a Vauxhall. But if you want it and can afford it then go for it.

Think there expensive for what they are!
Can get a new 1.9 CDTi SRi Sport Hatch with X-Pack for a little over £14.5k here: http://www.buyacar.co.uk/detailyq12843.jhtml?process=true&vehicle=12843&model=137&channel=new&useIndex=false&pageNum=2&orderBy=derivativeString&fuelType=2&manufacturer=10968&idx=25
Then you go here www.vxperformance.co.uk and buy the re-map for £500. Hey presto you've got the power of the 888, but admittedly without the suspension, Brakes and Wheels (Do you really need them?) for about £4k less!

the Mazda 3 MPS is the only hot hatch choice IMO. its quicker, handles far better than a FWD should, and is so understated its practically a sleeper

240bhp
0-60 in 6.2 seconds
150+ MPH
Slow for what it is?
What in gods name are you talking about?
Has anyone seen the inside of the Astra? Its up there with the Audis & VW of this world and you can be damm sure it won't need fixing as much either.
People have rose tinted glasses when it comes to VW & Audis thinking that they are top of the pile, I suggest you have a chat with Jr or SVM and re-evaluate your mind set.
Thanks

i agree ollie, VAG is a pile of shit when it comes to build quality. people rave about it, but its no better than stuff being churned out of france for example.

my seat is far better build quality than my corsa, 106, megane ever were!
because they are considered so reliable/strong, people pipe up loudly when say a coil goes, or a maf goes, some models are prone to maf failure? so fucking what it costs like £60 to fix.
But you pay more for vag cars so you expect it to be better, which is why its annoying if they go wrong, but you hear more about vag cars going wrong because of this reason.
If someone said iv had no end of issues with the coilpack on my 106, people would just brush it off as being french
The leon has not had ONE thing wrong, no rattles etc etc
as much as we need to remove our vag glasses you need to remove your vaux glasses

also my mates 53 plate astra IN NO way feels as well built as my 2001 car. The plastics feel cheap, the metal sounds tinny, and just generally not as solid

not to mention the gearbox feels like your stirring a bucket of lego.
Probably doesnt feel to bad to someone who isnt used to somethng better, and had i gone fro mmy megane to say an astra i wouldnt notice it, but you deffo notice it when you used to something better.
Noticed the same when in my mates Focus

The interior on an Audi is leaps and bounds above a Vauxhall in terms of style.
Vauxhalls have come a long way though and are by no means badly built. I'd have one but wouldn't be under the illusion that it is as good as an Audi.
I wouldn't call 6.2 0-60 and 150+ top speed slow either. Its currently the fastest hatch in its class isn't it? Unless that Mazda thing has been released.

Seat interior on leons is hardly upper class
Steve its no better made than an astra, its no different to an astra. Its a seat not a BMW.
Windows falling out of golfs anyone?
Audi and BMW are way ahead in terms of build etc, thats why they cost more. Not rocket science.
P.S My vauxhall was made in 1995 and does not rattle.

neither is an astra
A mk5 astra has a better quality interior than your leon, been in both mates own repectively and theres no contest?
Im not saying the leon is badly built, it is not The interior is very nice and well built. But not better than the newer astra.
p.s thanks for the u2u yesterday

might as well that be an end to the argument then, the opinion of a man that owns a vauxhall but works closely with vag cars, who will hold no impartial view
ps. jambo you will recieve something else today at some point

If it's a 53 plate, then it'll make it an end of the line MkIV, even when they were released, the interiors were a bit cack compared to the Focus. The Mk5 is much, much better in terms of build quality. Comparing it against an Audi A3, build quality wise, you don't get much extra, if anything for your money!
