Welcome

Myself and Maxpower have sorted everything out and threw sorting out are differances myself an simon spoke about why i dont buy Maxpower and how he could improve the mag.

i am really pleased you have listen to what i have said (as normaly are views are not listen to) and come to find out what the people who are building the car want out of the mag and why people have stopped buying it.

Simon knows my views and they to be the same as whats been said.
The main one for me is all the tits and arse, its a car mag not a porn mag. As my son wanted to take my mag where my Car was featured into school to show his mates BUT i couldnt let him

Joining other Forums will also give you good feed back as we are the people who build the cars so we are your market
ClioSport Club, SaxoSport, PassionFord etc etc
As noone want a Mag full of the same car, all the time there are post on here about other models of cars being built and i think specking from most of us we all enjoy following there progress, like :
The Full Carbon Mk1 Golf
Supra Twin Turbo engined PUG 205
Skyline running geared Focus
etc etc
Just make the cars interesting

Just hope whats been said it getting threw and changes are made

Not if your average reader age is less than that required to drive a car, and therefore buying an advert doesn't actually generate you any business.

i think everyone gets it.. Max doesnt like speed cameras..
Neither does anyone.

Redline have a laugh but never went too daft with it. I've not read it for a while, last I saw there were too many pictures of women creeping in there, not sure what is going on these days. Being fair to them though and part of the reason I even know the team there so well is that they were regularly involved in proper car events - track days, testing and the like.

I don't know whether it is possible to turn around a ship the size of Max. I would argue that it doesn't merely document the scene, it created and continues to nurture it. What you're basically proposing is that you alter modern culture. Thats a big ask.

as i side point i think the pages and pages of adverts for sex lines have to go from the mag. i'm sorry but there is no need for 5 pages of adverts for chat lines entitled 'young sluts cream for you' and that sorta thing.

and too be honest i think same idea applies for the rest of the mag, needs to lose or atleast cut down the lads mag image. there are enough lads mags floating around now, what with nuts and zoo etc. so i think max needs to go back to being more of a modded car mag.

also, more proper how-to's would be good, on things like amp wiring, retrimming and various other mods and fixes.

the features are totally uninformative and written for a 15 year old to understand

too bright and in ur face (the whole mag)

full of jap cars (personal opinion but i dont wanna see features on subarus etc)

to many company demo cars and cars costing the equivalent of a house to build (totally unobtainable to the average punter) cars costin 50k + is a joke (maybe the odd time but not every car)

price is fair enuff imo

need a staff cars section like revs used to have (was brilliant)

more work in progress pics

exlude the girls or at least cut it down a hell of a lot

cut the ads for chatlines on the back

bring max back to the people who buy it by featuring more subtle affordable cars

its the layout of the mag that does it for me, its to bright in ur face and basically full of rubbish. total vauxhall imo is a well layed out and written magazine with a gd blend of how tos, techical info etc

i dont have a problem with the f/glass guys and crazy bodywork but lets see it in progress and have a gd mix between f/glass cars and subtle cars. if we didnt have the f/glass and crazy bodywork cars then the max world would be a boring place imo

take it back to the style it was in say 1997

if u do that ill buy it again...

Decent things like -

Reader projects maybe... not some wanky Project like a Nova with a BMW X5 bodykit, Renault headlamps reverse quadroople hinging automatic doors and petrol flap etc, but decent projects that go somewhere and do somthing..

Attend some club rolling road days.. Max power mag seems to promote the idea that 50bhp extra is achievable from a K&N, peco backbox and a superchip - Which is clearly bollox.

Write some decent 'How to' articles - maybe things like designing your own ice install (properly not throw some 12" subs in the boot and cross your fingers) Or fitting preformance cams..

Dont feel the need to stick with run of the mill cars to feature - get out there, feature some MK1 escorts, Chevvy's, Old skool hot rods etc - Why does it have to be the some wank 1.0 hatchback with 6 tonnes of fiberglass wank smeered across the car and painted like a fairground ride on the cover?

As said before - Loose some of the ads.. its one of the main reasons i stopped buying the mag- more ads than features..

Get some cool projects on the go, hit santa pod, or nurburg or even some uk tracks - Build an ice car and take it to compotitions - get out there and mingle with the people you want to sell your mag to.

i could probably go on for a while - im going to shut up now

I think the problem is if max power doesnt cater for the chav's, someone else will, and the question is do max power want to make money?

I think you should split Max into two magazines.

1. A cruise magazine or just let Fast Car keep that crowd

2. A decent respected Modified Car Magazine, with good in depth articles, with cars from around the world. Pretty much like you do now but with more cars built by your readers not your advertisers.

I think one thing you should get from this thread is that 90% of modified car enthusiasts DO NOT LIKE the links the modding world has with the porn industry. At 31 if I want porn I would buy a porn mag or better still just go on the net for free. I certainly dont want to see it in between wheels and ICE in a car mag.

Next tip:

buy Performance VW magazine or Performance Ford have a read through them and look at the style of writing and design, because I personally think they have it just right.

Im not gay... but too many women in there.
"Cheaper" modified cars - The Range Rover sport in the issue of November was amazing and everything.... but really, im guessing that most people don't have them. I started buying Max when i was about 15? and i bought it to get ideas for my car, and now it seems as though there arnt' any cheaper cars anymore, except for the nova in november issue

Hi Guys,

Thoroughly enjoyed reading through your ideas - great to see so much constructive criticism. The feeling I get is that you want the design and writing to grow up, have less slutty women, have more how to and useful stuff, more variety and a leading style once again...

Which kinda means re-starting the whole magazine

I think MatG hit it on the head there.

Max Power has its own name now, it'll be VERY hard to shred that reputation. Maybe look at re-introducing a newly revised REVS magazine (why did they pull the plug, even if it was going MP way..).

Put all the proper technical stuff in there. You can then put advets in your own mags, and if the boyracer market wants to start reading the technical mag, then they will move on.

Its just the whole ora around MP is chavvy boyracers, and i think u'll find most car related website forums (note i said most, not all ) will have a more car dedicated user base.

Theres a big split in the modified car world, and tbh, i don't think u'll ever really going to mix the two properly. We don't like boyracers, and boyracers don't like us cos we're snobs (i had a pop at some neds in a real tatty nova being tits, they called me a snob, i had to chuckle )

I personnally think MP has a responsibility to eductate the upcoming teens though, and currently, all you do is promote the gang/chav/rude boy/boyracer style images that NO-ONE (apart from the people its aimed at) likes. These people ruin it for others at things like shows etc.

Hard place to be in your situation. You need drastic changes, but its how tight your own managment have their lease around your neck.

You've got a lot of work ahead of you to really change what you've got. I hope you can do it, but its going to take a lot of time and a BIG attitude change from your staff and reader base.

i agree with this, its like those magazines that promote young girls being ultra thin, then they end up becoming anorexic
