Trouble is I agree with you Ian, personally I would take the deal, but that is why Rach is better with money than me, she hates to have to loose money on something, and this is why she could afford the GSi in the first place 
I will ring her in a bit, get her to ring Vauxhall back and get them to offer 8.5k.

ask for 9k. if they say yes to 8.5 you will always wonder how far they would have gone
its far easier to work down than trying to get the price up once they agree. worst they can say is no.

I'd say fuck it and take the part ex as it'll pay off the existing loan on the GSi and means no hassle of trying to sell privately. Alot easier all round.

how does that compare to your situation? your changing it for a new car not one that is the same.
Besides the one of the forecourt mustve been in bad condition, they wouldve had ians up for more, noway would a dealer do a deal to lose money

i mean, how much did you pay for the car in the first place? lets say 8k for arguments sake, well you will have been paying a total of around £10-11k depending on rate due to interest.
So even if you sell it for what you paid for it off the dealer (unlikely due to it being older and the fact dealers prices are always hgher than private) then your still down on money you would have been paying through the interest.
I personally thnk you should take a good deal when you get it, whats the point trying to scrounge back 100 quid her 50 quid there?

Her car cost 10k, privately its worth between 9-9.5k
The VXR is 18k

I would personally keep the GSi you already have & save the money you would waste on that new VXR for a nice deposit on a house for all the hassle it's worth as it would be a much better investment IMO.

Aye but unless you are earning alot of money its unlikely you are going to be able to afford a nice house and a nice car. So I'd get a nice car now while I am young, then get a house at a later point. Only live once!

Worse condition than one of my trade-ins? You've seen the videos? 
I also got a turbo for the price of the model below and every option free.
It was also the last Sunday of the month about this time of year. If its such a bad market, VXRs mustn't be moving either.
Tell him your deal, if they refuse then oh well you still have a nice car. I actually met the guy who was the sales manager at the time I bought my Astra working in a different dealership when I went to look at the Monaro. I've told this story but I'll tell it again. He said 'you bought that car in Preston, we lost money to sell a car, we thought the figures you had made up were so low you had picked them out the sky knowing nothing about the deal so we wrote them on the form anyway not thinking you were going to sign.'
They then offered me 9 for mine against the Monaro at 19. I said so if I come in with 10 we'll go ahead. Yes he said. Sound, says I, I'll come in with 9. I didn't buy the car. Would have been cheap if I did though. I liked that car as well
