i dont think there ment to be whiny, my engines wernt anyway, if not a bit tappety as my high milage one was. The others wernt to bad, although both the one at 27k and 40k on clock needed new engine mounts which i thought was a bit strange. :S

tbh my engine is very quiet, no strange noises what so ever, just shows what a full service history can do for it lol.

thing is you Might not think its whiny but me and cuprasteve are used to the uber refined vag lumps so may pick up on it whereas others wont.

if you go along in 1st or 2nd at about 3/4k and release the throttle it makes a noise a bit similar to having it in reverse but not so loud

the gearbox on my old one went, and that made a very distinctive grinding whiny noise, its nothing like that

The 106 GTi I had was great fun, they are like little go karts, agree with the weight of the doors etc... Nippy with great handling though!

Only realy downside is the tiny spacing of the peddles, you get used to it quite quickly, but at first you might be pressing 2 at once!

lol, nah it's the one in the middle above the rev counter and speedo!!

Yes it is. Mine normally sits on a 1/3 when driving normally once warm, but the other night it rose quite a lot, and snce having to do the head gasket twice on my old 106 as i didn't keep an eye on the water temp i always keep my eyes on the gauges now!!! How difficult is it to put a oil cooler in?? I want an oil pressure gauge to. i just don't know where!!

won't putting an oil cooler on it do more harm than good, you'll probably end up with the oil running too cool the majority of the time.

plenty of people I know thrash theirs on track days and don't need one

only a small one, i don't see how it would do any harm, i just didn't like seeing it so high, only a 10 minute blast aswell.
