According to the countless posts on Digitalspyforums, it may just be a red herring by the hollyoaks writers.

No-one KNEW who died in the fire, and no-one is 100% sure now, until you see him dead...

There is mention of at least one more death as well.

of course its them, the police would of done testing to confirm identity and thats why others were all mourning them. Its not like they are going to show their burnt bodies on TV at 6.30

yes they do, the journalists get a sneak preview DVD of whats happening in the future so they can write about it and get interest....MAX IS DEAD, face up to it and mourn got dammit.
