I looked into it for the twin engine corsa and went to look at BAT motorsports Corsa's as all panels are fiberglass (Doors,Boot,Roof,Wings etc etc) and i just couldent live with the lines the panels made and the ruffness off them.
But I thought you were building it so that you could do a 10 sec 1/4 mile?
I am BUT i wanted it to be very clean and still look like a factory car. Plus weight isent really a problems (as i would not of gone for 2 engines ) It was just somthing i looked into as i have booked myself onto a carbon fiber panel making course in april so i have the option to make them.
I just could not live with the gaps the panels give, Plus the bowing at high speeds (if the doors bow out at 80mph imagine what they will do when i go for 180mph+)
i think the picture below says it all, Fiberglass doors

I'm sure you'll learn this or already know this but there are some neat tricks you can do with composites to prevent them flexing in undesirable ways. Adding in other materials and changing the weave pattern in places are pretty usefull techniques If you can get an accurate enough mould, you could probably make a good solid door...

JR, i think you need to clearly identify the direction/ what you want to use your car for, then decide accordingly. PErsonally it looks good as is, wouldn't waste any money making it look poo for the sleeper look etc.
to go very fast, whilst beeing built to a highstandard, thats the direction, i just dont know how to carry the plan out as yet
On a track, in a straight line up a strip or to be known as that guy with the white corsa thats fast as fuck by all the numpties in your local area?

yes mate i already know all about that BUT i go off what is tryed and tested. BAT motorsport have been making carbon fiberpanels for years i am 100% they are not going to cut coners on anything they have a full carbon Corsa C and B made to FIA Rally Spec and there doors bow (when taken to high speed which is very rare).
No one was saying it would not be a solid door i am saying with under pressure the panel will flex and bow.

They don't look right Jim.
I thought it would look good, but i've seen it done and it realy spoiled the car. Too much expanse of colour I think. It tends to make the back of the car look too big and high.

If you don't keep it looking like it did at PV 2005 then i'll be deeply upset.
Even get another set of SXi Rims.

Sleeper doesnt mean it looks scruffy northern joe
