Choke. Thats it. Automatic choke. All cars have it.
Bet it goes off after a few mins.... Also if its cold, you'll see the gases.

Steve X16XE - I found out a few weeks ago that there is no thing as a automatic choke. Our corsas do not have automatic chokes.

the "gases" is just water vapour burning off that builds up inside the exhaust on a cold day

So why do the revs go to about 1200 and stay there for a min or 2. Then drop to about 900?
Also why is the fuel going in more richer?

its not richer its just squirting more fuel in hence the revs rise to stop it running rich.
its electronic fuel injection, no need for a choke if the ecu requests more fuel it just injects more in

Its a common fault with the corsa, its down to the automatic choke. There really isnt a lot you can do apart from paying for a system check with a Vauxhall dealer which could cost upto £30 + parts ect. Its not a danger to the vehicle and the only thing you can do is have a new choke fitted which will end up doing the same thing as this one.

think about the purpose of a choke, to let more fuel in to keep it revving higher so it doesnt cut out when its cold.
you dont even need a choke you could do the same with the throttle but who wants to be sat there with there foot 1cm on the throttle.
if the ecu can control revs and injection duty cycle why the need for a mechanical automatic choke?

mechanical automatic choke???
Automatic choke. does what it says on the tin... The car does it it's self. Lifts the revs.
Last copy and paste,
I owned a new style Astra 1.6i 16v for 20 months. It was a very reliable and enjoyable to drive, especially when compared to the previous model. The handling is super, confidently taking on bends and not suffering too much over bumps. I did find on some open roads with cross winds, it did seem to waver.
The engine is a delight. It gave power in easy reach and was very willing. Gearchange was good, and the brakes effective. Boot space for a hatch was fine and a shape that was usable.
There is plenty of room inside although the interior is a bit dull especially the dashboard. There is good driver seat adjustment on the LS model, and the steering wheel adjusted as well.
The only niggly problem was with the automatic choke. It failed to settle properly when started from cold and led to a awful drive for the first mile. This needed seeing to by the dealer.
Fuel consumption was regularly around 40mpg.
I recommend this car for most family use, there are bigger engine versions for more sporty drivers.
