i feel too much of the comedy is planned out and scripted now, instead of it happening (or appearing to genuinly) happen by accident

They had 4 cars on the show last night didn't they? It's an hour long show about cars. Not fucking Jackass. They are trying to be 'ladsss ooeee innit'.

1. In the convertible people carrier episode they didn't actually set fire to that car wash. I know someone who knows the person that owns it - apparently there was a bit of smoke, the rest of the flame were computer generated.
2. I read in The Sunday Times with Clarkson's section in 'InGear' only the studio is scripted, the rest isn't. Yes, they might say "be idiots in golf karts" but they didn't stress exactly what to do.
imo, last nights seemed like it had gone downhill because they only had 4 features, whereas there's normally 6 or so. But what was in it hadn't gone downhill.
Roll on Episode 3.
Oh, anyone else think Hammond looks a bit gaunt in the face?

its back on top form for sure!
give it a chance chaps only 2nd episode in!
i enjoy the funny bits, they do test the cars enough i feel, however the road trips they do are the best, and the challenges buy a car for x amount etc
most modern day cars are all the same anyways, these days you need something more than just the '5th gear' which we all get bored with going on, each week, the banter is the best part of the show really

It's gone too 'mainstream'
it's no longer about the cars, it's all about ratings and getting joe public to watch...
I sit at work in the canteen, listening to old ladies who couldn't even tell you what a Focus ST was, saying how good the show was...
Exactly, appeals to them as it hardly features cars anymore.
I thought the whole arguing on golf course / art stuff was utterly pointless for the fact I knew they wouldn't decide anything by the end of it.

yes i think giving it a chance is the best bet, as im sure it will get going, but i do think the jokes are a bit scripted, which takes any humour out

Fifth Gear became what Top Gear used to be, including VBH but even that got rubbish. Top Gear is still the best of the two for me, I like the humour, James Mays dry sense of humour is brilliant. They just need to get back to reviews and less silly features. The jokes etc is good, we just don't need 20 minutes of the show being made up by crap!

I personally thought it was just because he had lost weight his eyes seem more 'prominent' now.

fifth gear is only watchable due to vicky and tiff (as the stig type way) the other presenters are a waste of time, i get bored watching it
i rather watch top gear than fifth gear every time!
the topgear presenters just make it all work really well, the show is 100 times better sometimes it embrassing watching fifth gear they try to hard on there

I think you would look a bit gaunt if you had been in a crash like he had
People always moan about Top Gear going downhill when really it isn't.

Fifth gear has gone far more downhill than top gear... but top gear has still lost the plot!
I'm awaiting another Nurburg ring / sabine shmit feature soon.
