It is a friendly it is called trying other people out.

The only gripe i have is if he makes 6 subs 2nd half .. 3 is reasonable

It's called having a physical presence, it's what most modern football clubs use up front along side a more technically gifted faster forward.

In any case he scores more goals for England than any other player picked in the squad or out the squad yet he is crap. OK.

I would agree with that yeah he can't play as a lone striker you defeat the purpose of using him.

Once play starts the it won't really be a 4-5-1. Gerrard, Lampard and Dyer can all move forward.

Phil Neville is our only fit left back.

Lampard 17 goals this season surely deserves another crack.. he was Englands form player before the World cup and thats the only time he was average.

Its not the players its usually the tactics.. look at Gerrard play him where hes best central and hes scoring goals again and Liverpool are winning. When England dont play with a holding midfielder Lampard cannot play his natural game.

Lennon for Wright Philips easily though.

Umm, Gareth Barry 10 times the player Phil neville is!!!

Lampard aka John barnes deserves to be left at home... he simply doesnt do it and IMO hes had enough chances!!

Gerrard & Hargreaves ervery time for me with Lennon on the right

That said Lennons sick mate

Apparently Barry is injured.. Hargreaves has just come back, Rooneys got a slight strain and we need to test our sub keepers so the team i think is right.. id just bring Shorey in at left back

Barry isnt injured Is he??

I wouldnt play hargreaves now either but its a shame!

Still surprised he rates foster above carson! carson literally stopped charlton from getting beat 10+ nil at the emirates not so long ago and thats no joke

In reply to your original thread title Robbo and although its only a squad pick for a friendly you'll probably find McLaren isn't really the answer short mid or long term. He doesn't come across as being the real deal anyway I dont understand the reasoning behind O'Neills snub in the 1st place but Villas gain I suppose!

Agreed mate! I don't mind him but his flat refusal to drop donkeys like Lampard and Phil neville smacks of Sven and his so-called experimenting is half assed... any XI with ben foster in should surely have Micah Richards etc.

How many more friendlies are lined up after this? Surely theres plenty of time try other players. I think Richards will be in the squad soon.

SWP - how long as he played this season Dyer there and then Barry LM!!! surely?!

Whats crouch gonna do on his own up front with kieron dyer?

English striking line:

SWP
Dyer
Crouch

Spanish:

Cesc
Villa
Torres

Last time i saw fabregas play, he was a midfielder, not a striker

If players arent fit, why risk them!! after all its only a friendly, and if there injury flared up, etc we'd all be saying why was he playing etc!!

And foster is better than carson, and likewise, woodgate is better than carragher, carragher is an average defender but plays with a lot of heart (but you need more than that against world class strikers)
