I have been given the courtesy car until close of business Thursday, on the presumption it is a write off - I'll no longer have a courtesy car if it is a write off.
If the car is repairable, I'll have it for the duration of the repair, which is 7 to 10 days apparently.
I bought the car for £1900 iirc BUT no matter what you value the car at, they will price it themselves. To me, because of everything I've done to it, it's priceless!
Still haven't heard anything.

There are w reg corsa,s out there for under £1000 so my gut feeling is write off. Think the damage has to be 80% under the value of the car (might be wrong)

Shhhh
In people's past experience. If it was written off and I have the original steel wheels (with no tyres) would I be able to take my alloys off it and put the steel wheels back on?

I took all my stereo equipment out of mine and the old woman on reception said i could only take it if i was replacing it, the damn thing was being cubed so why should i bother putting standard speakers/ stereo back

CorsaCF had a similar accident and his was repaired, but it cost more than the car was worth, so he didn't go through the insurance...
Remember, it's only a car, you're alive, no-one was hurt, if it gets written off, get another one, there's thousands to choose from.

Sorry to hear what happened mate You just got it to the standard you were aiming at as well
You could fit a few slam pannel and to it and it should be ok, and a new bonnet - unless there is any other majour damage.
Really sorry to hear this and that it happened to you, glad you ok though

I know, that is what I keep telling myself. But there ain't many 12v's on the 2nd hand market at the moment. It isn't worth getting a more powerful one, because I will get rapped dry in September. 1.2 16v is the biggest I'd stretch to.

pretty similar damage to mines, i paid to have it fixed as it would have been written off, but yours is newer and worth more than mines so it might go in your favour

Good news good news.
How much did it cost you for a repair?
And before they obviously 'write it off', can you have chance to get your own repair quotes etc before you claim on your insurance? I take it they can't write it off officially until I hand over the log book...?!

Hmmm ok that is what I'm thinking. Labour is going to kill it.
Oh, I was talking to the recovery driver - he has an Astra Sport Estate, with red top in it, and I knew what he meant

were the mods declared?
sorry to hear your car is fecked though, i crashed my black corsa and cost £760 to repair it. had to have a new inner wing, outer wing, bonnet, slam panel, wishbone, track rod end, front bumper and the chassis needed pulling out a bit.

That sounds really promising. I think that is what I'll need doing, may be a little less. Then again I'm not accident repair specialist you can speculate for hours, but I just hope it won't be a write off. Also have £350 excess, so that may make the difference between write off and not.
Only the wheels were declared because lights and grill didn't need to be, only if I wanted them replaced in the event of an accident it will be put back to manufacturer spec. So if someone has a spare, left hand Depo headlight, I am on the look out! If they query the rear wiper, I'll claim I was missold it and don't have the receipt.
Oh, I was told I could go back, if a write off, and take the CD player out I'll hopefully be able to bring home the alloys. If my next car doesn't have 13" wheels, I'll be selling the alloys most probably.
Like I said, not making too many plans, on the hope it is repaired.

You cant speed in a 1.0 12v
Only joking mate, unlucky that! But all things happen for a good reason, plus if its a write off, which i doubt it will be, if youve alredy said in this i havent read it, just skimmed through. If it is a write off, decline the first cash offer they give you, they will always offer you slightly more after.

But surely, if I declined, they could say "meh, your loss, case closed" and I get nothing, figuratively speaking?!

sorry to hear this.
really it wil depend on if the car needs jigged etc as this bumps the cost of the repair up for labour charges basically. ie around half hour just to load car unto the bench etc
might be fixed with non genuine parts
as for every one saying it would be better written off due to gaps etc
dont listen to this shit, im a panel beater to trade and if a cars fixed correctly the gaps will be fine.
cars rarely even come from the factory with prefect gaps, nothing better than putting a side on a car and thinkin my side is so much better than the factory side etc etc

Cool thanks. Shame your based so far away, you could have had a look/priced it for me. To be honest, if it wasn't done with genuine parts, but looks ok, it wouldn't bother me.
I never got a pic of the car infront, which was hardly damaged. Considering I was doing 20mph-30mph, in peoples experience, has the done the right amount of damage, or too much? i.e. is there any indication this has happened before?
Not that it makes much difference, I'd just like to know people's opinions really.
AND I'm surprised no-one has said about it being my fault or anything, speeding too much, blaa blaa, which I'm also thank ful for. I am so gutted I did it, like anyone would be. But I've always prided myself on being a safe, yet confident driver, and any accident I had would be an accident - I guess it has just come sooner than I thought!

you can buy your car back if its written off, prices vary but think i payed 150 for mine, managed to sell my rear bumper for 50 and spoiler for 40 then i kept my wheels, lowering springs and bucket seats, was rite pissed off though when i got it back, some twat had robbed my led indicators, gear nob, mats, tax disc and tax disc holder and they never paid out for them

This is a Zurich (my insurance company) certified repairer so shouldn't be too bad with things like that, I hope.
Was really pleased with the service from Zurich as it happens. Was recovered by a local firm, taken straight to the repairer, where they had numerous courtesy cars, and drove home. I thought after an accident it was more time consuming and hassle than that.
