Steve, I also disagree.
After driving a 1.2 8v and a 1.4 16v back to back, I can't see how you can say the difference isn't that noticeable
Maybe around town, yes, but a 5 litre V8 in a Corsa wouldn't be much different round town.

And the 1.6's are loads better, alot smoother and nicer to drive.
And aswell it wont be long if you have a 1.4 that you'll be wishing you had got a 1.6 mate.

Jay, how much extra is it to insure the 1.6? and how much are you looking at spending to tune it?

a tuned 1.4 will surely be as good as a standard 1.6 sport or a vtr! only 200cc in it

as good as doesn't always mean power though. as robin'll hasten to add that the torque figures on a tuned 1.4 won't be the same as a 1.6. never mind the general "feel" of the car etc.

1.6 made much more difference when i swapped my x14xe for one. then had Velos and remap and had 130bhp+ which made my old 1.4 feel very sluggish

I got my 1.6 at 18 with a years no claims. It was about 1000 with admiral.
My mate had a 1.4 16v which he had played around with and mine was still quicker He was a bit pissed off. And the insurance was more as it was modified.

Again you are talking absolute bollocks, I raced a 1.2 8v in my 1.2 16v and blew him away, a 1.4 16v used to blow me away, there is 40bhp between a 1.4 16v and a 1.2 8v, you will notice the difference.

My 1.4 16v would pull away with ease from my mates SXi until he changed for a full system and it made us pretty even.

A 1.2 8v is the worst engine in terms of speed Vauxhall have ever produced, its so slow my 50cc RS used to be able to beat them.
A 1.4 16v will not just creep away, it will blow it into the weeds.

1.6 16v is different matter
