TBH the Man Utd fans were in the wrong, doesn't justofy how the police reacted but it's what you have to expect in Italian football - and the Man Utd fans knew that.

Not a bad result for Utd, they needed that away goal. Roma were all over them, and if they'd of got a 3rd as they should of then Id of fancied them to go through.

Bad result for Chelsea, giving away and away goal. Hopefully a Valencia win when it comes to the next leg.

Good result for united in the end.....Decent game, scholes was a bit daft (again)
The man u fans should not have responded to the roma fans taunts..But you noticed there was no police in with the roma fans getting beaten when the roma fans ran to the barrier??? But when man u fans rans to the barrier the police were everywhere....and started beating them???

Happens all the time now, as in the celtic game the italian police are out of order and something needs to be done about them IMHO...

no mate...sorry...

watch the highlights and judge for yourself...the police reacted ONLY to Man U fans who reacted to Roma fans provocation. The police was very partial and did nothing to stop Roma's fans

how brutal the beating was and also beating women?

Just a shame to football.

Bad policing, cant argue about that.

But the police were there already when Utd fans responded to the taunts, so how did they think they would react knowing how Italian police are?!!

To be fair the warnings are there.

If you know anything about Italian football you would have expected it, going to a place like Roma your always going to be in for a rough ride.

Apparently 2 UTD fans were stabbed/slashed with knifes before the game when it all kicked off in the town centre

In 2001 when we were there 14 fans were stabbed. Same happens everytime and its a bad bad place to go to.

Something needs to be done about the state of Italian football, and IMO games should all be behind closed doors until it is all sorted, as it just seems ones thing after another lately.

And it begs the question AGAIN....if this had been in England what sort of punishment would be handed out!

If a match in this country had been Policed that badly then heads would roll tbh. When Roma come to Old Trafford they will see how real Police Officers operate and hopefully this will shame the two bit thugs that "policed" the game tonight into changing

not in the ground. But for certain the town centre and around the ground will not be a good place to be for a Roma fan.

Disapointing result. I knew we wern't going to win the minute Scholes got sent off. His behaviour last night was a disgrace, hes admitted that hes no good at tackling but he literally does go in and take peoples legs out. I hope fergie really gave him a going over with the hair dryer. He effectively cost us the game. Van Der Sar made some very good saves and I don't think he can be blamed for the result, the defending was shocking though. Fair enough there was no Vidic and Neville but the defence we had should of have made a better job of defending the goal than they did. Heinze looked good but didn't do much defending! O' Shea wasn't too bad either few decent blocks and passes. onaldo had a blinder for about 10 minutes and ran the Italians ragged, Rooney too had a few good runs and a nice finish. Really he should have got 2 imo. You don't start Ole in a game though

I'm glad we got an away goal, I just hope we can do more next week.

2 guys in the pub were nearly scrapping, one said the fans deserved the beating so this big guy got up and said if he didn't shut up he was taking him outside for a beating! You don't go to a football match to get beaten by the Police though. There was one guy with his camera with blood pouring from his head being helped up.

I'm glad someone said it! It was started by Roma fans who rushed that barrier before the Utd fans!
