They got in contact made a donation as clubs and put their captains names forward. Gavin Rae went out of his way to make his own personal donation as his gran was a nurse and he wanted to stay anonymous but let her use his name to add weight to the campaign.
Malky Mackay did everything at Watford, likewise Stuart McCall at Sheff Utd. Alex Ferguson actually forced Giggs and Neville to approach the woman before she approached them.

I think we need to watch the programme actually, its not as black and white as players turning the opportunity to donate down, she had to go through different routes to get to each club starting from scratch doing everything herself.

I think we do have to remember that players must get inundated with request to support charities etc. I bet ever week they are asked to do something for x.y.z.
That said it was obvious enough once this got the full press coverage that this was one that would be worth supporting, I give a small amount each month but some of the prem players are on such amounts that this would not make the blind bit of difference to them.
