That was another thought, but I can't warrant £100 on rear lights

Right well, not so much happening in terms of modification. I've ended up doing an engine swap earlier than I anticipated, unfortunately not for a 2.0l though...
This happened:
Bottom end has gone on this lump, so out it has to come. Spent the week getting things apart, at this stage now:
And getting the gearbox oil out is the stupidest design ever:
Just have to take driveshafts off and gearlinkage, then put my new toy:
in to get the mounts off and engine out. New engine (same engine) is being collected tomorrow to put in.
Also from the same place I'm getting engine, getting a mint white bootlid to replace my rusty one, and a rear light cluster to replace my cracked one
I can't wait to do more exciting updates rather than maintenance issues

Old & new
New lump ready to go in
She's in, but no spark, or it would have been done today

Right, got it started today, was just the crankshaft sensor was positioned wrong
Few more things to sort then I'll take her for a test drive today.
This is when it first started, it was on 3 cylinders and sounded so cool
Put 4 spare plugs in and she's running lovely!

Well, I'm at my wits end with it now...
It's overfuelling like a bitch
It makes funny noises
It screeches sometimes
It's lumpy on idle
It struggles above 3k rpm
And the fucking wind slammed the door shut
Was making fairly good progress. Bonnet is back on now.
Just once it's up to temperature it'll suddenly struggle and then cut out, won't start for a minute or 2 after. Just proper pissing me off.
These ECU fault codes are coming up:
71 Air Temperature Sensor (ATS) (MPi only) High voltage
33 Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor High voltage
19 Crank Angle Sensor (CAS) Incorrect RPM signal
Running nicely here, this was when I was just getting it ready for a test drive, shortly after it cut out.
What is this? Is it the fan belt?
And just when it was going so well...
Been offered a Corsa GSi for a grand, tempted

if its over fueling and cuts out when warm have you tried a new coolant temp sensor? or swap it off your old engine

Yeah change some sensors over. Handy seeing as its the same engine

Don't give up, your so close graham.
Car looks really good as well, you've had a fair bit of trouble with this one now mind so fingers crossed it plain sailing once you get it running grand

might the crank sensor code be on the memory as wasnt this what was causing you to get no spark and youve since fitted it?
map sensor will probably be causing the crap idle so try your old one
and the ats is the sensor in the rubber pipe between the throttle body and the airbox if its any help?

All sensors are the same. Only thing that has changed on this car is the engine itself. All ancillaries and electrics are the same.

Fair bit of trouble doesn't even cover it tbh

Yeah, it was just wrongly positioned, still the same sensor! And I even cleaned it up too.
MAP sensor came up when I read the ECU previously (before engine was replaced) and never caused any problems! ECU light didn't even come on. My MAP sensor is my old one too.
No idea where the ATS is, can't find anything through Google either!

its the sensor in the rubber pipe between the throttle body and the airbox
that code just needs clearing then(the crank sensor one) as it'll be in the ecu memory.
look for a split in the vacuum pip leading to the map sensor as ive had that bring the map sensor code up before as it isnt reading the vacuum in the inlet manifold properly. would explain the overfueling aswell

How do you clear it? Take leads off the battery and replace?
I'll have a look at various pipes etc, might even be that my map sensor is buggered anyway, if it was coming up when I read it before. It might never have been reading properly.

Did you buy this new engine without any sensors?
if you bought it with sensors, you could possibly replace the sensors that are showing faults.
ATS or Air Temperature Sensor, i think its only small but it will be in the pipe from airbox to your throttle body

Yeah the engine came as just the engine, that's it.
There are no pipes from my airbox, they were on there when I bought it, but I was told my engine didn't need it.

This the ATS?
If so, where does this red pipe go?

The Ats sensor is where the plug is nearest to the throttle body.

yea its the grey one next to your throttle body. red pipe is to a vacuum controled flap in the airbox to stop fresh air getting in whilst warming up. shouldnt need it just remove the flap from inside the airbox

Graham, that red pipe attaches somewhere between the throttle body and the inlet manifold but it wont throw any problems up with it not fitted

I unplugged the battery to reset the ECU and the only fault it's now bringing up is:
33 Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor High voltage
Took it for a drive and it's fine now, think the ECU was still confused with the old faults.
But there's a snag. Was letting it get up to temperature and all of a sudden it boiled up. Hmmm. Checked the oil cap and hey-ho. Fancy some chips to go with that mayonnaise? Bugger
If it wasn't for that bar one of two minor problems it was ready to go.
