you'l find alot of wasted charge pressure will exit the compressor housing through the intake without a blowoff valve hense the wheel stalling

You can have both fitted to your car

yes i know, people force more pressure back through the turbo out the wastegate though by sealing off there dump valve

[Edited on 30-08-2007 by Steve]

Oh!

Why the hell do people do that

no exactly. your saying it all exits through the wg

you wont get charge pressure going through the exhaust housing.

What the fuck has fitting an external wastegate and screamer pipe got to do with blocking off the dump valve?

well if you dont seal off the dump valve pressure will be lost through that route

screamer pipe has nothing to do with dump valve, or technically the external waste gate, can be on internal waste gate aswell. all that it does, is as turbo reaches pre set boost level wastegate opens, now either its back into exhaust system like normal, or, to atmosphere making screaming noise. it has no relevance to dump valve. infact that stutter noise is fuck all to do with screamer pipe anyway. i have screamer pipe, and dump valve, they dont work at the same time for obvious reasons

also regarding the illegal part. it only opens when engine is on desired boost, so, as far as mot test goes, there will be no gasses coming out from it, hence it not being able to fail on it.

Sounds like you are talking about compressor stall. The wastegate in on the other side of the turbo.

From what i recall 'wastegate chatter' is a completely different thing to compressor stall. Wastegate chatter is caused mainly on cars running lots of boost with a weak wastegate actuator that cant keep the wastegate closed under full boost but is still strong enough to prevent wastegate creep. The sound is the wastegate 'penny' opening then closing very quickly

compressor stall can cause wastegate chatter, for the very reasons you point out.

close off the dv, and the actuator wont able to cope with the pressure being forced back through the turbo

I had one on my RX7 single turbo. It sounded the bollocks, apart from it was a bit loud as it exited underneath the drivers feet

its not the pressure that goes out steve, understand.
its the exhaust gases taking the easy way out. charge pressure aint gona go through the turbine wheel. how do you think it gets there? back to the turbo through the compressor oil seal through the shaft housing through the turbine oil seal and then forces itself out the gate? er no

A dump valve is recommend by you lot then? Most of the ford people I know, prefer not to run a dump valve as they can sometimes go wrong and have the air filter chattering instead.

no run a dv or recirc, the ford people do it because it sounds cool, and the chatter doesnt come out the airbox lol.

like i said earlier doing this adds strain on the turbo and means it loses momentum when it stalls thus affecting its performance
