quote: Maxi-dot was fitted to cars that were specified with satelite navigation. I'm pretty sure it cannot be used without sat nav, and therefor cannot be retrofitted independantly - which is a shame

Approx £250 for the dashpod, plus coding. I've looked into it but didn't bother in the end.

My car won't do 60 in 2nd either.
But according to VAGCOM it does 0-60: 5.7 and 0-100 in 13.4

It can defo be fitted, the maxidot bit works fine, its the bits i already have that don't.
I'm almost sure its just coding but I can't get it coded correctly yet.
If it doesn't work it'll be going on ebay.

Just got home from having it remapped
It pulls soooooo much harder now right down from 2k all the way upto the redline, previously revving the car past 4k was a waste of time as the power just hit a brick wall, but now has so much more to give.
I get a real nice smog explosion come out of my exhaust when I give it a boot full, but apparently thats because i've been using cheap diesel
Best £295 i've spent since my xbox 360 :lol
Oh, also got 43mpg on the way back, with my foot down for most of it

I don't want to pay skoda

I wish I could have a car as good as pauls

I might go there as a last resort, if its something in coding I should be able to do it with vagcom though.
The one fault code I narrowed it down to was something about can bus 1 wire operation intermittent.

I challenge any of the haters to drive 1 and say it's not 'quick' on the road in relative terms. I can only imagine a remapped effort to be even better.

my next car will be a tdi.
but i won't be buying it for 1/4 mile drags or track days, as it isn't what it's made for.
Thus I also won't be doing 20-50 mph speedo vids in it.
I want a Tdi, so that I can have a comfortable, good fuel economy drive, with a fairly quick car, that will pull like a train on a motorway without me needing to constantly cog it down to get it moving...

which is exactly why I want one. I was sick of doing the daily commute in the 106 gti, as the cams are lairy, was drinking fuel, stiff suspension etc.
I'd maybe keep the 106 gti as a fun mess about 2nd car / strip and cage it for track.
however, you keep going on about the tdi's performance / 1/4 mile times etc... but in a real world example say 1/4 mile most arn't that quick... imo it's probably due to the long gear ratio's and having to change gear every 2 secs (small power band)...
I don't know what spec is the car that does low 14 1/4 miles? I'd expect your typical 160 - 180 bhp Tdi car to do a 16 sec 1/4 mile or so.

however i've been in tdi's that have been in gear, say 3rd or 4th... nailed it and it's impressed me how its shifted...

250ish at a guess
its the torque that makes the difference in these, you probably wont think it now, but low down when the turbo kicks in it will feel faster then your 106, the problem is the power dies quite quick

I'm sure it will feel quicker for that moment before you need to change gear (but the problem is you'll be changing gear more often... Read back last page! this is the whole point I was saying).
