Nice front. Block paving costs a ridiculous ampunt of money. So glad I did my own. Cost about £800 in materials.

How did you get your car on the front without a dropped kerb?

It's risky doing that around here (parking on a self-made driveway when a drop kerb isnt present).

I've seen about 10 examples where the local council has no doubt sent letters to the households telling them to stop, but they must ignore them.

The next thing they (the home owner) know, the council have installed concrete bollards on the path infront of the driveway to stop car access. Crazy

Suppose if you don't ask if you can use a public foot path for access to your private drive way, council have all rights to do that. Stupid home owners thinking they are above the law.

Agreed. It's funny when the home owner contacts the local paper with and they print their sob story

The kerb is only an inch above the road.

Doesn't matter. The law is the law.

Woman across the road kept complaining about my dad building so he complained about her using her driveway without having a dropped kerb. She recently had to pay to get it dropped.

Fair enough the kerb was high enough that only a bigger car could get over it, but it's just part and parcel of being a responsible home owner.

i'd say so.

with the amount of cars on the road these days the councils should be doing all they can to get more driveways done so they are parkable

Been going through the remortgage process past couple of weeks. Currently have 26 years left (£115,500) paying £668. I over pay £50 a month and I got a loan out to have the garden and driveway done (£120) So £838 total

House valued at £125k meaning I could get £112,500 as a remortgage so I have extended my loan by £3k to cover the short fall.

New mortgage is 25 years (1 year less) and £548 a month and the new loan is £180 - £728 total.

Im going to see how it goes for a few months and I'll consider over paying on the mortgage/loan

pretty pleased

Mortgage to be completed this week.

Found worktops that match my current ones. been looking to add a breakfast bar on the opposite end of my kitchen when I decorate (only place not done since i moved in) the current work tops have a tiled splash back. would it look weird to have an upstand on the breakfast area and no tiles?

My understanding is that loans are also taken into account when mortgages are taken out.

I'm just a little confused why anyone would take out a loan to have there driveway and garden done when struggling to get a mortgage.

I paid 3k for mine but that was cash. I wouldn't of had it done if i was borrowing money.

Fair play to you - sometimes i wish i still had my man cave.

the drive/garden helped me hit a good valuation

I am paying £10 more a month than my original mortgage to have my garden and driveway done

this will be paid off in 48 months after which I will be down to £550 (or less when I remortgage again)

why would I not do it????

People often borrow money to get major work done and incorporate it with the mortgage, seems a no brainer for the way your sums have worked out

Figures have basically been fixed to allow Mark to mortgage a property in his own name. The loan is probably in his parents name. The figures stack up well, niceone.
