is agreed value reviewed yearly?
Yes, but think about your house insurance. If you've got a 5 year old TV, which cost £750, you get £750 if it's nicked, not £200 to buy a 5 year old one, it's the same if you have a decent insurer.
The £15k isn't about the sale value of the car, it's about how much it would cost to replicate it, which is why Paul H has an agreed value of £5k, but his car wouldn't sell for that...
The value of the mods on Ash's car won't be any less to have done now than they would have been 5 years ago.
My car has an agreed valuation of £4500; bear in mind its a 1993 Corsa 1.2 8V with 130k on the clock - however if I were to replicate the car the agreed valuation with the insurers is £4500. I have to submit at least 7 colour photographs anually, 1 of each side, 1 of the front, 1 of the back, 1 of the engine, 1 of the boot and 1 of the interior.
Alongside this I have to submit all documentation and receipts for work, dates that all work is carried out and in the case of concourse/classics a club representative also has to give their opinion as to the value/condition of the vehicle.

Does this cost any more with the insurer? i.e. like paying for protected no claims?

It costs me £25 admin fee to have the paperwork done, but the insurance isn't much. I'm 24, 6 years NCD when I last renewed, agreed valuation all modifications covered like for like or at my discretion - say someone damages front bumper I can have whichever bumper I choose and I paid £340 including the admin fee. So it cant be much more than a normal FC policy.
Thats one fo the main reasons I haven't changed my car even though I could afford to now, it's so cheap to run but its worth more to insurance than I could get selling it

Got the car back last night.
I need to start getting quotes for fixing the car now off insurance approved bodyshops. I think they are going to have a problem as you cant get the paint anymore So it might have to be a full respray...
After driving it again when i wasnt really annoyed, i still love the car and have to get it back up to standard!
The bump was only as slow speed and had cracked where the metal support ends, causung the bumper to flex and split the arch and sideskirt on the joint. It is fixable, but i am not going to let it get bodged.

with receipts and documentation this is the value not only agreed with but actually suggested by the insurers. I'm happy to accept as in the event of a full write off and if I chose to, then to reproduce the car from standard would cost £4.5k+
I wouldn't choose to do it again but at teh end of the day it's how I chose to go about my insurance, the money I've spent on the car since I've owned it is almost covered so at least I wouldn't get "market value"

I'll write my car off and ask for 40k+ then, better than the 18k I'm trying to sell it for.

you don't ask for the amount afterwards, the amount has to be agreed with supporting documentation at the date of commencing insurance. If you had supporting receipts for all the work carried out on your EVO along with photos and the amount totalled £40k plus, I'm sure you could get an agreed valuation for the amount its worth to replace/rebuild.
No point being an arse about it; just because people use an insurance facility which is there and open to anyone - why take the piss?

Because I think it's a joke - Can't believe in this day and age insurance companies agree to this, everyone knows on the 2nd hand market 'mods' don't make an ounce bit of difference to a car's value. It's just asking for somebody to accidently lose/crash or burn their car IMO. For them to pay out 5-6k for a car worth £1500-2000 for instance is madness.

In your eyes, but the system is there at least for the time being. It didn't cost a fortune to take out above the cost of a normal "modified car" policy.
The companies that offer it tend to be the specialists, HIC, Adrian Flux etc and its aimed a both modifed and classic cars; the latter ebing especially difficult to put a value on.
The insurance is not related to the second hand valuation, it is related to the valuation required to exactly replicate the car in the event of a total loss. Its obvious not many people take advantage of the service though but there's no reason why they can't.
The whole point of insurance is to cover your posessions in the event of loss or theft, why can this not apply to cars?

My old mans MG is insured for the sum of parts, plus the Man hours it would take to build.
His car was complty built up so he had to hand over recepts to show how many hours the guy who built it charged him for.

Without an agreed value, I'd get about £800 for my car. It's worth nearly 4 times that, so I think I'll pay the extra £15 on my policy for the 'joke'.
