Been in both N/A and Turbo and both have been very fun Then again 600bhp+ would be fun

Most people say they are crap in the wet TBH i think they aint all that bad

N/A seam to go very cheap now consider they used to go for silly money at one point.

355 Kitted MR2's begs the question:

WHY?

2.0 16V turbo is never going to sound like a Ferrari V8 so what's the point. Would rather have a genuine MR2 than a fake 355

I have a 2003 MR2 Spyder. - I think it is called an MR-S in the UK.

It is my weekend / fun car.

After a little tuning it makes 134hp at the rear wheels.

It weighs less than 900kg.

In a straight line it will hit 60 in just over 6 seconds and go on to a rev-limiter limited 138mph according to my G-Tech / GPS.

But that it not the whole story - you do NOT buy a 2-seater sports car for straight-line racing. The car is incredibly agile, the limits are high and very, very approachable, it is easy to drive it at 90% all day long.

On the limit it is a little twitchy, mild understeer segues into major lift-off oversteer if you are not certain of what you are doing it will scare the crap out of you and you will exit the track backwards.

However, a gentle hand (and foot) and a little practise and it will out-corner most everything out there.

At Button Willow (very twisty, demanding track), armed with my largely stock MR2 (only mods are suspension 9Tien-S and Koni adjustables), bracing (breastplate and FR/RR tower braces) and a decent tune with replacement exhaust manifold and e-manage piggy-back ECU) I have out-lapped way above the class.

I am consistently faster than 350Z's, Subaru WRX's and every single Honda Civic.

The only cars that give me real trouble are the odd Lotus Elise - a well driven one will take a second / lap off me and some nutcase in a Corvette that I get scared just to be on the same track.

Now this is running road tires - Dunlop DZ101's in 15/16 (staggered) sizes.

Switching to DOT Race tires on Gramlites (16x5 and 16x8) I can drop amost two seconds a lap and play with the Elises.

I have had mine for four years and 37,000 miles - some of which have been really hard and some have been on various road trips

There is enough space behind the seats for a camera bag and a soft weekend bag, but that is about it.

Mind you I never bought it for practicality.

Yeah the back end just snaps right away, sometimes without warning.....very easy to find yourself facing oncoming traffic.

I lost mine oon a roundabout once, it had only been raining for 30 seconds, I was still in my dry weather type style of driving mindframe. lost an alloy that day & scuffed the bumper I was on the pavement before I even knew what was happening

They lose heaps of power through transmission losses, typically 40bhp is lost. Mine (97 Rev3) with Filter & exhaust was just 132.5bhp at the wheels!! Down from 172.6bhp at the fly.

There resonably quick....fast.....I didnt think so!!

Couple of mates have got them. One is a MK I and the other 2.0 aspirated MK II.

They are both a reet laff.

MK I is a proper thrash and great fun on grass.
