yes, thats the problem with live mapping.
as for how detectable a live remap is, its virtually impossible to tell unless the people looking for it have the equipment to open the map file itself and compare it against a standard file. I ALWAYS keep the software code and hardware code the same as the standard ones but add in an ident so that I can identify them. Wether the people looking for the map have the knowledge and technology to be able to detect a remap, I dont know but I will often get cars in that have been previously remapped and its often glaringly obvious from looking at the software code.
The map file can also be locked so that not even the main dealers or other mappers can get into them. You can also keep the standard map files software code so it seems as if its 100% standard but the equipment you are using to read it just wont do so.

Depends how much they cost tbh, my generic map was 100 quid, i don't think i'd get 400 quids worth of extra bhp and torque if I had a live one.

worth noting that not all standard ECU's can be live mapped, as a guide price they are from £295-£350 in most cases and some are around £500+
