i'm same mate
kinda like it though it's like living two different lives....
At uni we talk about politics and 'important stuff' etc, where as when I go home the most interesting thing we talk about is how someones exhaust fell off the other night or something
and yes i also drive a 'chav car'

I always had it different. When i got my Astra i had just turned 20. Everyone thought it was looking like a sports car but "the engine sounds loud", "that's coz it's a diesel!!!!"
Now i've got a Corsa everyone who thinks they know something either say "have you/are you going to stick a 2.0/red top in?" or why have you bought a piece of shit Corsa? I then tell them to look inside, they look, and say "WHY?" I then either say why not? or tell them that it's a track car and i don't care if i smash up this "piece of shit" Corsa.
RETARDS!!!!

I always get from a 65 year old bloke.....says my car does 105 flat out and goes blue in the face if i say different!
Then i get another one like....'look you think your a ferrari'
wtf? How do i think its a ferrari in any way?
I also get...'You drive like a fucking maniac...' even though most of them past me every night on solid whites or the hatch lines and proceed at 90+ down the dual carridge way every single night.
If i ever do it to them (very very rare) next day i get a right load of abuse...its you youngens that cause the accidents etc....

i hate non car people too.
some fucking retarded woman the other day decided to let her little boy on a bicycle ride into the rode in front of me.
i was a little way back but she could see i was coming. i was doing about 20mph in 3rd gear.
then the retard decided to shout ''SLOW DOWN''. i said fuck off, it was a 30mph limit ffs, and there were traffic lights 20 yards away
i've got some ''non car people'' mates but i dont talk about car's to them.
love it in work though, always talking about car's the whole shift

yes this does my head in too!
I've had someone tell me to slow down before when i'm been going slowly, obviously they just heard my exhaust...
but the other thing that does my head in is people doing like 25 mph in a 40 limit on a empty country road... so I decide to overtake, go past and then they flash me 'like i'm being dangerous'... fuck off!

I love the face people get wound up when the dont understand your hobby
why should they, if they arent into cars, i wouldnt expect them to, and just make an asumption on what little knowledge they have on the subject
stop moaning at how non car people dont get your car, its all in the title, they are NON car people

The ones who think they know more about it than you can be a little annoying though

yeah, but if they are clearly non car people, i would ignor them on the basis they have no idea
if a well respected tuner came up to me and said something massively wrong about a car subject then i would find that annoying, as they should know better

I remember when I was first getting into cars seriously I asked the same questions as the ones mentioned in this thread
"How fast does that go?"
"How much did it cost?"
Now I ask stuff that people are actually interested in talking about, like- "What year is that from?" "Is that blown or injected?" "Are those Holley twin barrel carbs?"

yes james, but I have friends who play Golf... I don't play golf, I don't really know much about it. But when they talk golf, handicaps and different courses / clubs - i don't go 'oh fuck sake, stop talking about something I don't know about - boring' ... I just listen... yet if it's me talking about cars, people want you to shut up because it's something they don't know.
Same with anything really... Just seems 'cars' because they are a common ground (as in everyone drives a car) it's split into 2 those who see a car just as get from A to B and those who actually have an interest in them.

I'd say I'm one of a handful of petrolheaded motorists at work, but then the Germans treat cars in a different way to the UK drivers.
None of them understand the importance of how the engine sounds etc.

A guy i work with got one a few months ago, and all he talks about is how fast it is (beaten M3's, RS4's, etc), how hes out run the police in it, and how all the girls look at him when he drives down the road (well, we think he means guys!!)! Even started claiming it was on throttle bodies until i made him open the bonnet and point out the obvious fact it didnt!
oh how i laughed!
