unless you dyno tested your car before and after your postbox ECU remap you dont have any clue what has been gained in reality do you?
This has been my whole point all along.
I have never disagreed the rolling road one will be better, but I would not get double the gains as you have just claimed.
Also on regards to before and after dynos, are you not one of the ones that say as long as it drives well
The car drove really well, was much faster over the places I measure it, meaning, in reality, that it was good.
Is tomtom anywhere close to you?
I'd absolutely love for you to dyno that ebay map then get double the gains and prove me wrong, and thats a normal custom map btw, no fancy turn everything up that high it would blow up after 5 mins just to get the figures.

You have even gone as far as to suggest that generic maps lose power, I think I have clearly read the points you have made and disagreed with them as they are fabricated in your imagination.

I have yet to map a car that has not gained power with a custom map over an uploaded generic flash map. have you John?
has your map actually been dyno tested?

Read what i'm posting, I agree that the dyno one will be better, as I have in every one of these threads.
You have said a couple of posts back that you would get double the gains.
Now unless you went stupid with the map this is 100% untrue.
There is no way you'd get double the gains of that guys maps unless you turned everything up so high that it would only last 5 minutes, even then you wouldn't get double the gains.

based on the graphs I posted that engine gained more than double the power throughout the usable rev range with the custom map as opposed to the flash remap.

That's not what you said.
You would not get double the gains of the guy on ebays maps.
Because you got double the gains of some map file you have labeled generic doesn't mean anything does it.

Exactly, yawn, every single thing you have posted in here has been bollocks.
When there was all the airfilter scandal and dodgy exhuasts etc I thought it was just people jumping on the bandwagon but you have came in here saying that the ecu evolution maps aren't any good and you can get double the gains, immobiliser problems bla bla bla and you have nothing to back any of it up apart from a graph that says generic and custom on it.

why not just be happy with your £150 remap and take it as that rather than being so defensive? you dont know the ins and outs of ecu remapping yet you make some great claims.
lets leave it there, you are happy with your remap it seems, the title of this thread was would you trust a postbox remap, all I have done is pointed out the pros and cons, the cons are endless, the only pro is that its cheap.

you get what you pay for i wouldnt like to risk £100 on a remap that you have no knowledge of how they have changed the boost and fueling throughiut th rev range. how do you know its not det. at a certain point? just because it drives well?

I wouldn't trust the eBay map, because there is no guarantee you'll be getting your own ECU back.
If John had vouched that you actually get the ECU back, you don't know whether it's a con and the will keep your fine, working ECU from an VAG 110pd 1.9 TDI engine (or what ever it is) and send you back one which is completely fucked.
And I COMPLETELY get Dave A's point and have an example which may or may not help
South East Rolling Road at Torque of the Devil. 3 12v cars. 2 12v's achieve very similar graphs and therefore are relatively healthy. The same, generic remap would probably be ok.
The other 12v is running very lean, so much so, it won't be properly tested on the RR. If that person hadn't had the car tested BEFORE a remap, I believe the remap could potentially cause some damage.
The only kind of generic remap I'd consider is a tuning box, because it can be installed and removed by the end user pretty easily, without causing damage.

my point is Awesome GTI do not dyno the car yet charge 400 notes and they have a massive follwoing
Yes Dyno might be the best but other options aren't that bad

but they write their own maps on their own dyno, and put hours and hours of extensive testing into each one. not just buy unknown maps that have not been tested before uploading them. They will be able to look at the map and check it, and they have the knowledge to know what they are looking at, rather than just copying and pasting a file.
