Probs, but look how bad my waterpump was, aluminium and steel fuse together, which dumb Vauxhall engineer didn't think of that when designing the engine. It took me a day trying to get it out, with my tutor not telling me the most simpelest way of heating it up, I chisled the fuck out of the thing.

Put the MINI into BMW once because it was weird starting up from cold, would drop and lift the revs and so on. Got it back a few days later and they said it was fixed, Driving home and noticed it wasnt sounding the same. Got home and noticed they had taken off my £120 BMC induction, Went back and they said that was the problem LOL Actually turned out to be an idle valve or something.
And another time that Arnold Clark had it for a week my sister phoned me and said it was in Burger King car park.
I went down pretending i wanted something out of my boot. The receptionist was all helpful and then came back looking worried with the manager, He said 'Someone will bring it round in 5 minutes'. Waited 10 minutes and saw it drive past the showrrom window. I ran round and saw 3 guys my age get out with there burger kings. I went off my head , the manager came out and went mental at them aswell. Got a full tank of fuel, an extra years warranty and 2 free services. Hate to think they were probably kicking fuck out of my car.

erm you what, course its easier as aluminium and steel have different rates of expansion, thus heating it up removes the fitting tolerances

I have and it's taken me two days to strip the engine down, as everything seems to be aluminium to steel to me, and they are virtually unseprable. Haynes manual just said give it a few taps with a hammer to get it out, 4 hours later, the waterpump is in pieces under my car.

That is shocking. At least you got something back. But that still isn't the point. Would have been interested if you reported it stolen. I bet they weren't insured.

How could you, I had a two tutors that didn't know that and they've both been in the buisness 20 years, but the one that worked at Vauxhall in the past knew. Tutor Clive is always right.

Or as I was told at college, it was someone who never greased the waterpump when it was fitted and someone who never used antifreeze to prevent it, and that wasn't me.

Contradicted yourself imho so if it was fitted properly and been used with anti-freeze, it wouldn't have happened, and there is no need to replace after 46k.

I'm talking about the waterpump, but I guess we can't trust Haynes manuals when they said about the head gasket, as I swear they are normally done at a major service, but I can't remember the mileage of that, as tbh deano I can't see the point of changing so early as mine lasted 98k miles.

Headgaskets are not done at a major service
Cambelt, rollers and waterpump usually are, but not headgaskets.
Is this the future of the UK mechanic industry?
