I understand that, but each player has aspects to their game which makes them how good they are. So by stopping Rooney coming deep you cut off a big part of his game, and imo make him a much inferior player.
Im not saying he couldnt do that role, Im saying why make him do a role which would stiffle the player, rather than adapting the selection/formation to get the best out of the players.

It doesn't neither did I say that, but it's obvious he's not going to be a player that is going to play 75% or more of the internationals per season.
