I see what you mean about being common, only a matter of time though.

Only 695 Rallyes left in the UK! Will be on par with the 205 GTI as far as classic status goes.

cars are classics for a number of different reasons. You never know what will become "retro" bit like predicting the future. Also may depend on how these cars fair after 20/30years.

without putting my car in the pics id like to say the rover coupe/tomcat

only reason is everyone is breaking them to put the engines in bubbles and zr's so theres not many good ones around.bits are getting harder to find aswell like roof glass panels etc etc

It was never a particularly ground breaking car in the first place though, and came out in the prime of rovers downfall.

most of the cars being mentioned won't be on the roads in 5-10 years

only cars which have a cult following will be kept alive imo

old cars are mechanically simple, and thus can be fixed pretty easily

anything modern with an ecu/computer and a shit load of electrics will break and won't be worth fixing

lets face it, cars are more throw-away than ever

rover 75? who on earth would anyone keep paying out to keep one of those running?

i started talking about this in work today

i spoke to our top mechanic whos well known by ferrari enthusiasts..

i was saying about the old Alfa Romeo's and New Alfa Romeo's

and we both agreed that nothing in that workshop would ever be a classic.. not even the new spider even though the old boat tail ones are considered classic

he also made a point that a true classic must have a place in history.

i also noticed that all the examples given were all 80's-90's cars

now does that mean anything from the last decade can be a classic?
