For people just watching BluRays on a high def telly, it probably isn't worth the price hop.
With a proper HD audio system to go with it though, the difference is
Lotus Elise 111R
Impreza WRX STi

HD rocks. Black is actually blacks and blues and reds are so vivid you could be blinded watching!
Indeed, but alot of people are still forgetting the basics.
1080p is only a resolution, so if you spend £600 on a 52" TV which is 1080p capable, dont expect to see amazing colours and an amazing picture, despite it outputing 1080p.
Buy a decent HD TV, and you will be blown away by the difference.

As above, HD is only an aspect ratio.
What you have in mind is that they wont look as good because they wasnt recorded with decent equipment and that would be more true.
They can still re-release the original video at a different aspect ration, i.e 1920x1080

havent read Naths links but its about the vividness of colours and sharpness of picture. I film made in the 60s wont look as good as one filmed in hd, but it will still look 20x better than the dvd equivilant.
I have Deracula (1992) and the difference from the dvd is astonishing.

Glad someone dug up this thread, I watched Transformers 2 on blu-ray yesterday because i've not properly used my surround sound system yet, and it was amazing, well chuffed, so i'll have a little nose at the other suggestions on here when I get the net back and get some cash I might have to purchase some.
