It's not lower, its an upgrade.
Whether you agree with them or have a use for them it's a newer camera, with upgraded features and with the 400D being more expensive on amazon he 1000D is a better buy.

but are upgrades or newer models always better?
In my original post somewhere in this thread i think i mentioned him going to have a look and feel with these camera's.
We could sit here all day long but he is the one to use it.
I feel he will not benifit going towards the future without stumping up cost now.
If its a simple cheap option for a camera (point and shoot type of thing) he wants then the DSLR world is probally not right move to take and something like a Canon G9 / 10 would be better

He's looking for a DSLR, the 1000D is a better buy than the 400D.
The only downfalls I can see are 7 point instead of 9 point focus, I get by with 7 on my 350D and slower fps when firing off bursts of shots.

We've got lots of time to zoom while you're trying to focus manually though.

What a thread
Starts off asking whether to buy a Nikon or Sony, ends up confused over which Canon.

if you want a canon buy it from here -

12 month warranty just like a brand new one, only difference they might have been in a shop window, had to be re-boxed or whatever. Guy from work bought a 400D and kit lens and it looks brand new. Spend your amazon vouchers on accessories.

So you just posted randomly in this thread then, since he said he only wants one to spend his amazon vouchers and thats what the whole thing is about?

i love it, and im still no closer, I can see the plus side of having a cannon etc.. with regards to lens!
But still not sure to go for the 1000D, 400D, or Sony A200
