dispite being diesel the 335d really isnt that good on fuel at all but would be good for a daily luxury driver with some performance when you need it( seen one go from 60mph to high speed very quickly on the m1 so they cant be far off m3 pace in a straight line)
m3 all the way for a reliable daily driver thats seriously fast on any road and the perfect drivers car while still offering a good and comfy spec'd ca

335i with remap without a doubt.
Just as fast as an M3, but will probably have better in gear performance.

They've also been compared when the guy on here with one was beating his mate in the m3 around the track, m3's aren't untouchable.

I'd have to say the turbo
Not disupting the M3 is a good car, can't beat a couple of turbos though, even if they are attached to a diesel.

I find the M3 very cheap to run personally, nowhere near the cost of an Evo and the like. Fuel returns 24 average, long service intervals etc, insurance is cheap.

mines ok on fuel, ins is only £150 more than my astra. 14k service intervals too
Tyres are about the same as a decent hot hatch tyre.
Its not a supercar

Don't agree on the tyres, two rears recently cost me nearly £400 odd fitted I think so they are fairly dear but the rest is fine. Also had new rear discs/pads which was £750 odd but on the whole it's fairly normal on running costs

In all honesty, the game has moved on with the new E92 Coupe.
Its a fine handling car. The E46 M3 is nearly 8 years old. Technology moves on fast.
My friend has a modded E46 M3, with coilovers, anti roll bars, AP Brakes re-map zorst, filter and pulleys and i pull away from him on the road and i passed him on track

I passed him before the next corner.

The car is planted on track with no understeer and a very pliant chassis.
The car accelerates relentlessy out of the bends. The only mod is a re-map, 345 bhp and 530 ibs ft.
It is a quicker car than even a modded M3 as proven by me and my friend.
Even a stock 335d will live with a stock e46 m3 from a rolling start 60-160mph.
The m3 to be fair sounds nicer, although the diesel does not sound bad.
Another friend has the new V8 M3 coupe. I hang with him quite easily.
on the drag strip i even beat supercharged vxr8's

Not bad for a derv which is capable of 40+mpg.
The only place i feel the Derv was lacking compare to the NEW V8 M3 was at the ring. The new M3 is superb around there.

Its a cracking car, and does make the E46 look dated.
Both cars have their merits, both cars are fast. I bought the 335d. I dont think i could go backwards to an e46 now.
The new coupe is so refined and effortless to go quickly.
just my two P.

Total agreement.
M3 IL6's really arn't as fast as people think. Sure they handle well, but straightline, well its just a 3.2 straight 6....
Its slower than a C20LET Corsa in a straight line, and although faster, not as fast as you'd think against an XE corsa (talking straight lines here).
335 engine is superb, good chassis, and it uses its power well. And those remaps work wonders! People think VXR's respond well to a remap, but compared to these, the power gains look puney.
Got to at the body roll compared to the E46 M3 model in the pics above though.

There doesn't look too be that much more body roll, the first pictures where i'm assuming the body roll is being spotted looks mainly to be the way the track goes to me.
