VXR - I totally agree with the above about things getting worse environmental wise. But to change in the future (efficiency of certain production methods, changing to more friendly transport modes, etc) we still need to invest in things such as this today.

If we dont invest in these things today then the money wont be there to improve environmentally tomorrow. Its no good investing in improving the environmental issues if when these are found the infrastructure to use them is 5-10yrs down the line.

Come on Jambo, its not like im saying "lets all become enviromentalists"

But if everyone just THOUGHT about things, it would make a vast difference. Ignoring it and playing it as media hype won't improve things.

We'll die out soon enough hopefully.

Sorry, im appreciative of nature, i like nature, I don't want to see things die out. Nature makes this planet, we're just ruining it. Again, is this is a dying trend, as its not cool enough?

Then you have to question why nature made such a creature that can produce these sorts of things and has the desire to do so?!

Similar to other forms of life where they kill (and therefore destroy) others to live.

I totally agree with you, I just really don't think an extra runway at our busiest airport will help, when there are so many other options available. Even in terms of runways at airports.

Why not a northen airport? Why not another local airport thats big enough? Theres so many options available imo.

Birmingham or East Mids. HST links from south to north. Sorted.

I get the feeling that things are being rushed through because of the olympics/financial downturn.

At a guess, Im sure the Govt has spent millions looking at other options - knowing how much they like to waste money.

At a guess it has to do with airlines having systems in place to handle more planes at Heathrow, and also the infrastructure and businesses around that area who are best suited to handle the increase workload.

And also IIRC their is a fair amount of talk of Manchester Airport expanding.

Also just some info I read...

Manchester Airport current serves around 225,000 flights, looking to rise to 350,000 per year by 2015. And it currently has 2 runways serving 3 Terminals. Those terminals are ALL currently either being extended or planned to be extended.

So after looking at those numbers using 2 runways, it makes sense for Heathrow to need 3 runways as serving nearly double the amount!!

This is kinda aimed towards people that live in the area; Jambo, pow, ojc etc
Do you agree with the new runway?
I live in sunbury (near staines) and im actually for it. its gunna help with jobs in the area and help the economy.

Im not too impressed with the proposed fast-track rail link as they wanna charge right through the center of staines and Egham. Egham btw already has 3 level crossings, and they wanna add a 4th, with an estimated 45 mins per hour that the city will be locked in due to trains.

Another busy one would be Chicago which has 8 runways.

In intrest of safety alone i would say its worth it.

The economic impact will be good, create new jobs and then after its open the obvious tourism, increased business travel etc.

Easy answer.

Divert more air traffic to NON BA owned runways, and build up transport links to these.

Nobody wants to land at Stansted (or Luton) when it's 40 (or 30) miles from where they want to end up. That's why they have dirt cheap surcharges, because it's inconvenient.

As architecture goes, it's not particularly inspiring.

I fucking hate protesters though. They should be charged under the terrorism act the way they break through fences and get onto the runways

How fucking livid would you be if you saved all year for a holiday and your flight was delayed/cancelled because of some treehugging, fence-hopping, unwashed whelkfuckers?

The main reason they complain is that we "have more flights in-out than any other country in Europe...." Well yes, because we're a FUCKING Island!

Bring on the runway, the hell do I care

New runway will create 100,000 new jobs directly and indirectly and retain another 75,000.

If we don't get the run way in UK, it will only be built somewhere else closeby i.e amsterdam which is alredy used as a hub airport.

Roll on the runway
