I dont know why people call 106`s tin cans, the bodywork on pugs is generally far superior to vauxhalls, how many 205`s do you see with bad rust? and how many novas do you see with rust? similarily the same will apply to 106`s and corsas in the not too distant future.
If you are worried about crashing then drive around in a tank or a lorry. Have a look at the NCAP crash safety ratings bet theres not much between the corsa and 106. The 106`s lighter body gives it quicker acceleration, better fuel economy, does favours for poise and handling as well. I get annoyed by tin can being hurled at 106`s, perhaps 106 gtis are difficult to fault and the tin can insult is the only thing people can find.
My opinion on diesels is that modern turdo diesel techonology using direct rail injection are quality. Ie Fords TDCi unit is pretty powerfull whilst making excellent fuel economy. Older generation diesels are shite, ie vauxhalls 1.7td and fords old 1.8td are nasty, unrefined, slow.

I had a 106 rallye for a year, for an 8 year old car the bodywork was mint, my 8 year old Gsi was rusting, the rallye was quicker, handling was in a different league, reliability was the same and build quality not much worse than my corsa.

sorry taking the thread off topic there, just get annoyed when misinformed people diss the 106.
Still contemplating using the veccy for day to day use and getting an S2 rallye and turning it into a track weapon.
