TBH Babel was never a good player, he was just a good prospect. You could argue the same against Fergie for Nani (and Berbatov, and a load of others I could mention).
Keane is a good example, even though he wasnt Rafa's buy he still didnt get the best out of him.

Rafa is a joke tbh. What a retard.
Adds up to £17m total (20m euro I believe at the time).
Agreed though, he is no Harry.

Thats the thing I like about our arry is he does get the best out of players and has an eye for players too, but sometimes I think he likes a bargain too much and wouldnt go for an already top player. Cant complain with how we are atm, if only we could beat the easier teams (stoke, wolves) always been our downfall.

How is he shit hot? WTF has he done to be classed as shit hot? As far as i can see he has done fuckall in the league to warrant the "SHIT HOT" tag.
Have you actually registered what he has done, it is hard to take an average team and make that step up without having multi millions, lets face it it is just as hard with multi millions. Put it this way, they will finish above Liverpool this season and O'neil is in the top 4 Prem managers.

I just love how he is getting the best out of Bentley at the moment.

He hasnt done anything yet - we could of said the same thing about Phil Brown this time last year.
Lets see where Villa finish before putting Oneil up there as some sort of super star manager. Im not saying he is a bad one, but Im also not going to call him untouchable just yet.
Oh, and Villa wont finish above us.

I think you only need a basic understanding of football to see that he has done well as a manager (granted we are jumping the gun results wise and it is results based). I thought Villa were screwed when Barry went. Look how much Liverpool have been affected by Alonso going, you could argue that they are unlucky with Aqua mans injurys but I didn't see MON having 20mill to spend on a midfield replacement so it is swings and roundabouts.
Would you swap Benitez for O'Neil?

I like what O'Neil is doing at Villa.
Agbonlahor, Milner, Young, Downing, Davies, Sidwell..... All young(ish) English players and they make up the core of his team. Built around players with good experience like Friedel, Dunne, and Petrov.

Yeah its obvious he is doing well, I wont argue that, but I still wouldnt jump the gun saying he has got Villa in to the top 4 just yet.
Barry was never the player Alonso was, so of course they wont be AS effected by it. Plus ONeil had a season to prepare for him leaving as he knew he was going.

Oh, and no, I think ONeil is a prick of a man - so regardless of his ability of a manager I wouldn't want him here.

Stripping Barry of his Captaincy helped prepare for his departure.

Milner and Young I rate and would have in our side any day (in fact they'd be our left and right wings sorted). The other English players you mention arent really amazing imo.

No they're not. Which is why I like that MON is making it work.

I think they are just benefiting from the 'top 4' not being in the form they have been in the previous seasons, rather than them playing at a much higher level (although they will of no doubt improved from last year).

Yeah, tbh if anyone gets in the top 4 (if we or someone else doesnt) I do hope its them - for the same reason you posted above of them having some good young english players.
However I still think they'll do as they did last year - and I also think the 'top 4' as a whole cant be as bad in the second half of the season as they have been in the first.

Barry was a bigger part of Villa's side than Alonso was to Liverpool though, so more of an impact leaving.
