Mines only a 1.4 16v but lots of work, mantzel powerbox etc...
Its around 115-120bhp on a good day with right conditions...its happy keeping up with a mates Grande Punto Multijet diesel 1.9. Thats been dyno'd at 143bhp but its a heavy car for a sporty hatch.
Once i reach about 85-90, he has the edge.
Kept a couple of 106's and Saxos at bay until I hit about 110, not sure which 106's and Saxos but for a 1.4 it felt good.
A mate of mine has an Astra GTE with a heavily tuned redtop. It has been stripped and setup for rally use. Has a sequential box and grip that even gravity would envy. Very very quick and competitive against AWD rally imprezas but only on the stages which is largely going to be down to the driver as much as the car.
It must be a cracking piece of kit though otherwise people wouldnt stick them in their kit cars, escorts and other cars.
Hard to beat when its on form!

im surprised by the reactions off people tbh, weather its because some people do have poor xe engine's i dont no, lad took me out in his redtop corsa about 3 weeks ago and it really didnt have much pull, infact a 2.0 xsi 306 was sticking with it from 50-120 but my mates old 1 was absolutely mental, i mean really shocked me how fast it was and dont no what people are on about when they say no chance staying on arse end of an impreza, it had to be 170+ bhp and weighed under 900kg... suppose every redtop is different though.

xe would win on acceleration from expierence. although the clio would probably be more fun to drive if you had to navigate several corners.

My mate had his perhaps 6months and decided he had to get more power. Had the stage 2 mountune pack 185 bhp now what its should of been from standard from a 2.0 tbh. Quick car now tho

Fiesta ST
Civic Type R
Astra GSi Turbo
Corsa VXR
XE used to pull from the ST, and the other 3 would not lose or gain any ground to acceleration wise. Both turbos pulled away after 100+
