Sump is a Raceline Aluminium sump. Gearbox is the STD box that came on the Duratec?

Duratec was always FWD though when in a ford.

The box is a type 9.

It's looking really good so far. Same as mine, this bit of the build flys by. it's later on when you can spend a whole weekend fettling something and it looks like no progress has been made.

Keep up the good work. It's worth it in the end.

Also try Frank Pickles insurance. they are cheap as chips

Yep...type 9. Asked my Dad!!

Yeah...the electrics are next which my Dad isn't looking forward too. I have no idea with electrics so i'm no help!

Insurance should be cheap as chips for my dad anyway...being 60, with years and years of no claims etc. I've got 6 points which could pump it up a bit, but at least i've got a record of driving high performing cars which will help. But tbh insurance is a while off.

Well I've got 6 points, Liverpool postcode and no no claims on the kitcar policy as it's all on my 206 and I only give £117 a year for TPFT + parts. 1000 miles annual but I told them I do track days which clock up more miles off road than on and they weren't arsed.

Electrics is the fun part, I don't know why everyone panics lol.

After finding out the other day that we neded to strip the back end down again to fit the diff...its been done. Diffs in and drive shafts connected up.

Its a Ford Sierra diff btw.

Tiny update.

Not much happened as i've been in Italy for 2 weeks and my Dad has been doing a few niggly jobs etc.

Dash sorted and dials/guages/switches in place.



Birkin usually supply branded dials/guages but the speedo comes in KPMH so we sourced our own. They are VDO ones.

Throttle bodies and ECU ordered now too. Should be here within a week. Ordered from a company based next to the Lotus factory - can't remember the name. Its spot on as my parents live in Norwich, so its dead local. Once built the car will be going there to have the map tweeked etc.

Yep, thats them Robin. We saw them at the Stoneleigh Kit Car Show. Their TB kits were so nicely engineered compared to most.

Calling all Ford geeks. We need a short spin on Oil filter to fit the 2L Duratec. Std ones would be too deep and hang too low.

Anyone know of any shallower ones?

Standard Duratec ones are MANN number W719/27, this is the same as the 2.0 Zetec engines in the mk1 Focus., this is 123mm long.

The Zetec also came with a filter which was 74mm long, MANN part number W712/81

All the specs are the same, bypass valve pressure, thread, diameter etc.

That might help you, providing you haven't got the shorter one.

Google Mann filters, they have an online catalogue, you should be able to play around with it and find one to suit, if the shorter one is no good.

Been a while since update. Mainly because my Dad decided to do some decorating instead!!

Not huge amount of progress.

Exhaust system is in place now and side heat shields are on (but i've no pics)!

Rad, and plumbing all on and in place. Few other bits and bobs done.

Throttle bodies in place.

This weekend the front mudguards were fitted along with rollbar, boot liner, and the cover over the transmission tunnel and panel that goes behind the seats.

Mudguards arent painted obviously. We are getting the car built and through SVA/IVA then we will get it painted etc etc.
May seem an odd way round to do things but after the car passes SVA/IVA (which is a pain in the arse!) we will be changing a few things like putting harnesses in etc etc. So bits can be removed again for painting.

Apologies for the dust sheets. We have got a proper car cover - god knows why my Dad isn't using it!!


There will be "carpet" etc to go in too eventually.

Bit of an update....first proper progress since my Dad decided to do some decorating instead.

Throttle bodies are actually properly fitted now as is the cooling pipework etc.





Pic below shows bonnet just dropped in place. After the air filter goes on throttle bodies we are hoping to be able to mesh over the hole. Keep it looking tidy. Most have air filter protruding but my dad din't want that.







Fuel pressure regulator also fitted now....

Its coming along.....cannot wait to drive this. Think its going to be a bit of a weapon.
