Im very confused. I'll break it down into steps.
1. Contact DVLA regarding numberplate
2. DVLA contact numberplate owner, and ask if they are willing to sell
3. Numberplate owner replies 'Yes' or 'No'
4. DVLA contact you again, to let you know the outcome.
NO details passed
NO angry men
NO harm done, surely?

Anyone contacting me regarding things I own asking If I would like to sell would piss me off. If I didnt want it, i'd put it up for sale. You may have a very popular plate and be contacted every week by the DVLA. Would you not mind that?

Ok, thanks for the decent reply, it looks like progress. Yes, it would. I don't think it would be too hard to implement a system that would allow one enquiry per plate. First come, first served Then, if the plate does come up for sale, the interested party would be contacted first, also creating a nice easy sale for the seller.

Excellent. I feel you should contact the DVLA and let them know your idea. People are missing out on number plates they could own!

Yeah u r a doyle even concidering that idea would work. The only reason personalised plates were created was to make money. Obviously. Your idea would require staffing and take up DVLAs time, in turn, costing money.

Lol, I am not planning on overhauling the DVLA registration department. The whole argument has been over the issue of handing out persoanl information. Of which, may i add, was never even suggested.
