Of course you pay less to have non protected no claims, you pay more to protect them...

Protecting mine cost a fiver so it's daft not to.
That said, Admiral were sill fussed about the fact I had a claim three years ago when a named driver on my policy crashed.
So PNCB is a bit of a con as you'll still have a claim on record.
Just meant I needed to shop around a bit.

My Dad would kill me if I didn't protect his NCB It cost £80.
The insurance company definetly said to me that it won't affect him if I crash as a named driver though.

Bet they're not willing to provide that in writing. I would guess that's a complete lie.

Agree with Ian.
Graham you didn't get the bit about protected/non protected, I know it costs more to protect, I'm questioning whether the quote would go down or say the same if your previous no claims bonus is protected or unprotected.

Lee was right, I don't have to pay excess if not claiming for any damages to my car, that is what admiral said on the phone today! Bit of a result.

I'm sure you should do, get it in writing.
I've never known a policy excess being waived just because you don't fix your own stuff.

What John/Ian said.
On my elephant policy. A couple of years back my sis crashed on my mums policy. I put my mum down as named driver to make cheaper and when they asked about accidents I said none. Then the lady went on hold came back on the phone and started getting asset with me saying I was trying to provide false info and my mum had been in an accident etc. It took a few mins of discussion to establish it was because of my sisters accident on my mums policy.
So in short thata rubbish Graham!
I put Mrs Jambo on my policy she drove twice supervised I then removed her lol

Well that's not right then because my parents were both on my old Fiesta policy and I crashed and they haven't had nothing back from it, including a claim on their own insurance which is going through at the moment?

Doesn't affect named drivers if someone else on the policy crashes, only affects policy holder if a named driver crashes.

I had read it, read it again to be sure and still don't get what you mean?
If a named driver on a policy crashes it affects the policy holder, which is exactly what Jambo said, maybe you should read it again?

The named driver should technically disclose it to their current/future insurers as well.

If the named driver has crashed then both they and the policy holder have to declare it.
If policy holder crashes named drivers don't have to declare.

why would you put anyone on your insurance in the first place? especially a women? all them years driving safe for them to ruin it. I could of added my gf onto my traders for £80 odd but there wasnt a chance in hell, if i lost my traders no claims it would cost me thousands

You can protect or gaurantee no claims iirc
Think protecting saves a bit if you have an accident but gauranteeing saves the lot? could be wrong though

oh and cheers jambo
id check the policy, im 90% sure you dont pay the excess if its a third party claim and only when its a claim for your own vehicle.
My mum bumped someone the other week. Theres no damage to her car and so she isn't claiming for that. The other person says their bumper was damaged and are going through their insurance. Direct Line didn't want anything from my Mum in terms of excess although it is down as her fault. They said the other persons insurance deal with that.
