Not really telling him to do the same:
- She initiated relations with another bloke whilst still seeing him
- They're saying to him a tussle might help him get over it now they are apart

If he'd jumped straight into bed with the nearest vagina then it would have been the same, but that's not what happened. His ex has hurt him and now he needs to move on or possibly get revenge by sleeping with her mum, dad, sister or best friend.

The good news is that in a few years if that happens, you and your partner will both just laugh because it'll be a secure, strong relationship.
Young relationships are inherently shit and although it hurts now, and I can completely sympathise with that, been there a great many times, it's chilled me out now and made me less susceptible to pain. You need a bit of hurt in your life to make you realise and value when things are going well.
