Your average car probs does 0-60 in 10 so going by that I'd say:
10 = average
9-10 = nippy
8-9 = quite quick
7-8 = quick
6-7 = quite fast
5-6 = fast
4-5 = fucking fast
3-4 = uber fast
sub 3 =
150mph + top end is a good benchmark for quick cars

i listen to the lads at work going on about diesel connect vans being quick..
then today they were on about a diesel 306 thing and they where like it went like shit off a shovel and i just looked at them ..
id say anycar that pushes you back in your seat and you have difficulty pulling yourself away is fast.
i only have 3 levels
slow
fast
supercar
end of.

i would say 1/4 mile time of around 13.5 seconds would make a fast road car and 13.5-15secs i would class as a fairly nippy car.....

Edited... why don't you post with your ideas of something fast rather than just commenting on what other people have put?

If you norm reference it then the thresholds become clearer.
ie. what performance do you need to drive faster than
i) any of the cars at the lights
ii) most of the cars at the lights
iii) all of the cars at the lights
My Astra sits between i) and ii) and therefore isn't quick on a modern road despite having 200bhp.
To reliably be in iii) regularly you need 300bhp for a typical weight of car.
That said, I wouldn't generally just talk about straight line acceleration.

Anything with sub 7 to 60 is decent is IMO.
Stu is right about 0-100 thats the truest test which I think 15 seconds to 100 is a good benchmark

because as someone else correctly said at the start different people perceive fast....on a personal level i would say a corsa gsi was "nippy" , fast would be a civic type r or something, fucking fast would be M5/M6 and then you got supercar fast such as modern lambo's ferraris etc

I would say a Corsa GSi is slow and a Civic is nippy.
For reference, my Disco is comparable to a 1600 Corsa.

Standard Corsa GSi is slow as shit, absolute gutless.
But then sometimes slow cars can feel faster thanks to how they drive.
My RS1800 felt a lot faster than it was thanks to the free revving nature of the engine, the 16XE engines are hard work to extract any kind of pace out of.

see i'd never say 15 seconds to 100 is fast,
6-7 ish a good time for 60
meaning its taking like 8-9 seconds to do an extra 40mph
Jokes aside
fast car IMHO is 100 in 10ish seconds

How about if you can reach forward and touch the windscreen under full acceleration, then its not fast.

I can't touch the windscreen in the Puma when I'm strapped in

I'd suggest its an exercise for passengers (not strapped in) to try, not drivers.
However unless you're on a track I guess that wouldn't be too legal.
I got the idea from Fifth Gear (i think).

It's not quick.
I was referring to the position of my seat and the length of my arms.
