i want something a bit quick that will do 30mpg and petrol.
wouldn't mind a diesel but i prefer revving the car and using the full rev range.

I read 182's are a bit noisey on the motorway. Something to consider if that is what your commute is like.

i think 197's are pretty well built, quiet and solid! dont have the rattles etc of the 172/182!

Clio's are a pile of wank compared to a fiesta. It'll rattle you into an early grave

I didnt have any rattles or anyhing.
The only problem i had was the catback exhaust which was quick loud on the motorway but i cant see how even the standard exhaust could be close to how loud catbacks are.

they are slow. my ctr was a 2.0 n/a and used to absulutely muller them. my 150bhp ibiza cupra used to muller them. my big barge vectra used to muller them.
they are clearly slow as fuck for a hot hatch....
look nice though... pretty sure iv seen focus sts for 7k

they are not a hot hatch though. they weren't built to be hot hatches and were never marketed as hot hatches.
and yes i've seen cheap old shape focus st's but i had a facelift one and don't think i could go back to that and have a pre-facelift, it's have to be the same or better than my last one.

What are they if not a hot hatch/pocket rocket? Sporty looks and interior, sporty name... Not a sporty engine
I do like em but can think of much better cars for the cash

warm hatch. they can be made good by dealers fitting the mountune st185 kit but out of the box they are underpowered.
and a honda civic typre r is competing with the focus st, not the fiesta.

Id say the civic is more fiesta size and none turbo so unfairly compaired to the focus

true.
i'm terrible with cars, been looking at astra vxrs as well and insurance quotes are cheaper than LCR's and only 150 quid more than the fiesta st's.
i know that vxr's have better fuel economy than the focus st's and ojc's sounded lovely. centre console isn't my sort of thing though, but nothing some carbon look film won't fix
so so so indecisive, and then theres all the colours

Hard one with the Clio vs Fiesta debate.
Clio is a much much faster car and dare I say it, a much better handling one. But the build quality isn't there & supposedly not as reliable. If my mates 172 is anything to go by I'd agree with that statement but that's an old car now (8 years old)
Fiesta is nowhere near as fast, just 'nippy' I'd say, underpowered for a 2 litre car anyway. But it's got decent build quality, doesn't feel as cheap inside & is definetly reliable.
If it were me I think I'd choose the Clio, if you pick up a decent one and pay half decent money I think generally they are ok, it's only if previous owners have let it slide a bit that you hit problems.
Even though my Fiesta was only a Zetec S, even with all the mods on handling after driving my mates Clio I think it would have mullered me, and my god did it put a smile on my face aswell.

What actually make's the ST not as quick as it should be??Are they heavy??Engine restrictive and not revvy etc??
150bhp from a 2.0 N/A isn't all that under-powered.Yes compared to the CTR/Clio etc it is,but they make the power high up in the revs.Where does the ST's powerband kick in??
144bhp from a 2.2 16v is under-powered.lol.
