OK fair enough, probably not quite enough to go and buy some of the cars mentioned, but it's hardly a figure to be sniffed at.
innit
take off a zero from that 100k and you'll be close to my income
With their logic I must be better off because I earn less.....

I think I could just about manage on 5.5k a month. I know a fella that is on about 100k, maybe a bit more but around that mark and he manages to have a nice house (not a mansion but nice) brand new Discovery, R35 GTR and 2 kids.
Think I'd be pretty happy at that.

Are you for real?
100k is a lot.
It's really not, take home is £5.5k. At that salary you are likely to be mortgaged up to the tune of at least £1500 a month, probably even more.
Then factor in other outgoings, kids etc.
I agree with AK on this one. Without a substantial amount of finance, most the cars suggested are unrealistic.

So if I earnt 100k a year I would suddenly have kids and a massive house?
Not necessarily kids but most probably a big house. In the big scheme of things it's a lot of money, but it's not Lamborghini money.

So 100k a year isn't a lot but it'll get me a big house?
What is this logic?

I said it's a lot of money, just not Lambo money. I know a guy that ran a 360 on 100k a year, the gearbox needed replacing to the tune of £20k and he had to sell it.

I think the thing is 100k is a lot to most people but as your wage goes up all that starts happening for most people is that they start buying more expensive things. So you might shop at Booths instead of Morrisons, you buy a bigger house, you get more expensive clothes, go on more expensive holidays etc.. So despite the fact you are earning more you might not have that much money kicking around to spunk on flash cars. People dont tend to just live the same way they did before they started earning that kind of money e.g. in a 3 bed semi but with a Ferrari in the garage instead of a Focus.

This is exactly it. People earn more and throw more away, I see it happen every day in my family.
Personally, I would just live modestly but save some for a little weekend toy

Ade the subject of this thread is about what car you would run on £100k p/a. In this scenario it is NOT a lot of money for people to be clattering around in Lambos brand new.
It is a lot of money to me or you. But in the sense of money it ist. A lot

I could afford a lambo on 100k. It would be 2nd hand and I'd get it serviced at kwik-fit.

i would get a chessboard floor in my garage and show the internet that floor with a car parked on it.
maybe a beer fridge in the garage and some tools that only get used to change an air filter

This thread makes me laugh
Anyway, lets roll this back to the title. "Slightly hypothetical..."
Why is this only slightly?
Is this the worst "I might be getting a £100k a year job" thread?

100k a year is a lot unless you work in investment banking or oil & gas.
And I'd have a GT3 I think.

You also have to remember that you wouldnt have to find 80k for a car, equally wouldnt have to buy one new.
The question was what would you drive?
If i was on 100k PA, make it 5.5-6k per month i would also have a car previous to this that i could sell as a decent deposit on whatever i wanted. I would probably go for a used GT-R or something similar, or a nice 535D/similar and an ultimaGTR/kitcar for a weekend. Something around 50k tops would be ideal. most of the cars mentioned in here could be had around 2/3 years old at around 50-70k anyway.

Id probably race with something like a 911, or buy something historic like a Group B 240RS and join slowly sideways and do historic rallys and events like Goodwood.
