just get a bluetooth obd2 adapter from ebay and connect your phone up, use something like Torque, if you have android

aLap HD is also good on android, lets you video the lap and overlays realtime obd based and gps based data

its as accurate as you are going to get as it takes the feed straight from your ecu.
i can post you an obd connector to try if you like they are inexpensive around 14 quid, and work using bluetooth so its wireless
you will need a android phone to use the software i mentioned though

Yes, but look at the sample image... there are street lights and it's clearly a motorway - not the nurburgring.

i dont have an android phone, i wonder if there are similar things out there for the iphone.
what data the ecu can give other than speed..
i have a scangauge which tells me speed, intake temps, rpm water temps etc. but its not really helpful tbh, id need a HUD lol with live data on it.
i suppose the biggest thing i want would be an accurate lap timing device where i can split the track into sections also would like to see the throttle and brake inputs overlayed on the video.

ecu can give all that data the scan guage can, where do you think the scan guage is getting the data from in the first place..
HUD would be your phone, but it also logs it all so you can replay it after

what does the vbox rely on for data source? ecu? wont be any better then anything else if so
this software produces full graphs, gps paths etc etc

i know that steve, what i should of probably said was what data would the ecu give that i can use live.
i think i will just get a vbox adam, at least that way i can put 2 laps together to compare, just not forking out a grand for video aswell.

vbox probably gives a better all in one solution, but you can get all the same data and analysis for a lot lot less, under 50 quid

with regards to what it logs that you can use,
speed, rpm, acceleration, throttle position, g forces, gps position, boost etc

i dont suppose its just collectin the data, its actually having means to look at it and compare it, i use vbox when we are doing the time attack on jimmy's car and its pretty easy to use but i know at £1k it wont be something i would be getting, the cheaper one sounds more like what id need.

also can measure 0-60, 1/4 miles etc
however its not really accurate, works on the same principle as those driftboxes

VBOX uses GPS, but you can add to it by taking feeds from ECU (rpm, gear etc)
