What other 350hp 4wd cars do you know of that are much better or fuel? If you want performance and a light"er" fuel bill, go buy a Lotus or something.

Well i know that. Could never have one as a daily. That would be almost £5k a year for me just on petrol!
It just seems a stupidly low figure to hear, especially when most people now are trying to get 50+mpg these days!
No doubt lee is going to drive this like the prick he is though!

A lot of h8ers in this thread.
To be honest, thegsi isn't overly wrong about the running costs. You'd be completely delusional if you think you can run an Evo on the cheap. For example fuel. It really needs the good stuff. If you use a low octane, you're going to know about it.
Regarding service history, I didn't bother looking at the ones that didn't have it. I wanted to know it was looked after properly by a reputable specialist/dealer. They get expensive when they go wrong.
If I was to sum it up, I'd say you have to be pretty committed to owning and maintaining it. Mines going in for it's 3rd service in just over a year.

Why do they need such frequent services? Do they start to drive like crap, or is it to keep on top of things that might cause problems if ignored?

They're so highly tuned from the factory and much more lary than most production cars. If Mitsubishi didn't stress such strict schedules then surely they'd all blow up and the warranty dept. would go crazy

Nobody has questioned the running costs as far as I can tell. Thegsi got a bit of flak for an unhelpful comment of "if you need to ask you can't afford one" which is a pretty silly thing to say tbf

Tbf 18mpg isn't bad, I only get around 21/22 in the mini but I do have quite a heavy right foot.

If you get an evo, get the clutch done. Especially if you're going for the usual 400/400. The standard clutch can't hold for shit. I use an exedy twin hd one and it's probably the best buy on the car. Launches couldn't be any easier. It's terrible for normal roads though makes you look like a n00b driving.

R Lee I've heard horror stories about those Exedy twin plates give the bottom end crank knock?

I couldn't recommend them enough tbh. I've had no troubles apart from the usual squawking noises. AMS use them in all their customers rally prep'd cars.

I had 350bhp in mine and the standard clutch was totally fine.
Seeing as 90% of Evo owners use there cars at the weekends and only on the dry days then they can't really give a fair impression on daily running costs.

Only thing I can see in there that's a bit expensive is brakes.
Fuel - same as any car with a big engine.
Servicing - expensive but that's because there's no Halfords Trade card option
Insurance - 2k yeah about right?
Brakes - £900, really?
Told me £2,903.33 a year to run my Evo, pennies!!

i change oil and filter every 2500 miles in my 6 and using as a daily i was putting near £50 every other day, i get about 140miles to £50, soon as see boost i can empty it in no time.(18miles to work, further 15mile to gfs then about 26home from hers(longer from work thats all) and with having bypass too it was easy £50 for 2 days driving just to give you an idea of costs. i clocked 3k miles from 1st oct to around 8th nov as i hit 120k on the 1sdt lol
standard drive train aslong as not launching it everywhere will take circa 5-550bhp, parts imo arent that expensive, i know mines a 6, but i burst rear diff bearing and a 2nd hand ayc pump and dif only cost me £500. things like pads, discs etc can get dear though, i paid shade under £200 for some ferrodo ds2500s just for the fronts, oil and filter will be about £70 a time too, some owners will also put different grades in for summer and winter too.
mines a blast...when its working, clutch needs replacing as its knackered but it did do 40k or so for a 6paddle so done very well imo.
a standard 276bhp evo 6 will do 19mpg combined, im running circa 370bhp so i bet on a run i get about 15, nailing it im no doubt single figures.
clutch wise standards are rumoured to last 3 launches before start giving shit. ive just bought a competion clutches 4 paddle as my alcon 6 paddle has given up the ghost but everyone whos runing about up to about 500bhp uses the exedy twin plate.
the earlier evo engines suffered with crank walk, never heard of problems with a twin plate or even a triple plate.
