Didn't you get into the whole pay as you car thing, and then found out your overpaying for a boring ford focus so had to get a tigra

The things I don't really agree with are people going out and buying 90%+ of a car on finance and then making out they are some big player as they have an expensive car.

I've went and financed 100% of my new car. Not because I'm making out I'm some big player, but because I'm fed up of sorting problems on my own car after working on cars all day. And the simple fact it comes with a lifetime warranty means I'll save money in the long run.

I say go for it Colin. Can you opt out of the deal at anytime? £550 does seem alot BUT when you are comparing it to other cars that you lease for even just £100 less pm like Ben said, then I'd much rather pay the extra and have an M3. If modifying is a thing of the past then it's not a problem, I like to play with cars too much to lease but if I ever decided to stop I think leasing is a great way to have a nice car

I don't really why people saying about being a big player showing off having an expensive car, you still have to fork out £550 on lease & £200-£300 fuel or so, still not cheap car to run whether you own it or not, so I'd be flash about it too

And get that blue, or white

So true.

I can't really argue as my next car will probably be partially financed. The things I don't really agree with are people going out and buying 90%+ of a car on finance and then making out they are some big player as they have an expensive car. I guess the same could be said of this leasing rubbish, although if someone wants to spend £16.5k over 2 years and have nothing to show for it then be my guest.

Well looking at Colins figures it worked out better to lease than buying it, depreciating a fuck load, then selling on. Leasing would save £9.5k on the basis?

Did you buy your resisdance cash? I hate it when people have some fancy apartment on finance and think they are a big player as they have a nice place to live

PS. I live with my mum and dont have a car on finance.

[Edited on 23-01-2012 by richc]

WTF

Not really sure what to say, obviously I didn't buy my apartment cash. I think comparing mortgages to leasing a car is slightly pointless though.

True, perhaps a more applicable question would be what happens if after 2 months you get bored and want to change it....

Same for any car though. You couldn't have an M3 of that age all and not lose that much if not more money, regardless of whether you bought it cash, HP, lease, PCP, whatever. They depreciate and while its on the path you're losing money. The difference there is he doesn't need to stump up the remaining £40k to bring it home.

The big question is whether its at all sensible to do something knowing its going to cost you £16k, but its a nice car.

But to say you have nothing to show for it, no different to anyone who runs one. There are very, very few cars where you can say that you spend money on it and have anything more than nothing to show for it, might have some capital but that's because you put it in there yourself anyway. If you take out the capital all you are doing is fighting depreciation.
