For a start you need a tow car and trailer.
Race fees,
Tyres,
Fuel,
repairs,
maintenance/servicing
plus more (thats all I can think of knowing nothing about motorsport )
[Edited on 11-03-2012 by harrisp]
Yup, plus what they said about the cost of getting the stuff done, parts maybe, but not including labour!
e.g.
Get a car... (whatever that may cost) ...
buy a rollcage, then pay for it to be fitted = £1000 alone
Fire extingisher and plumbed in = £500
Electric cut offs interior / exterior = £500
Race seat / Harness = £350-£500
£300 or so for the race suit, £200+ for fia helmet.
£250 to do your ards.
Then as said, cost of getting to / from track etc.
e.g. hire a trailer for a weekend = £85. Entry to the race = ~£150-£200 for autocross. Then fuel of the trailer car = £60, fuel in race car = £50, then repairs after race £££ ... £400 + per race.
Just be careful, because even though that looked like a v.cheap way of going racing, I'd expect it to cost at least £5k +, not £1400 like they made out.
It's the little things too, like yesterday I had to take my car to get RR'd at a particular RR that our series insists people use for fair play. This cost me £210 (£72 fuel, £75 RR, £48 trailer hire, £15 fuel in race car) and it wasn't a direct racing cost.

And £5k, by racing standards, is still pretty cheap. Which is what they were pointing out, that it doesnt cost the 10s of thousands as you think it would.
No one genuinely thought they were making a direct comparison to golf did they?

i don't know who ''slash'' is either. looks like some old has been trying to still look cool, but fails. good ending though on the guitar.
rallycross looked funny, loved hammonds saxo bouncing 3ft in the air on the dirt.

Fast forwarded through star in a reasonably priced car. Usually do. Only thing I can fault about the program.
