Hold da phone.... Isnt that EXACTLY what your doing now? Sticking pieces of wood to your car without even going on track??

I imagine his comment is in relation to you ribbing him when he is saying you hadn't been on track when you were sticking things on either.

I wasnt ribbing him.

I was just advising him to try his car on track as its different to the last time he took it out.

Might find a splitter isnt needed and adding one will just cause drag actually slowing him down.

Off the top of my head i think its 4mm, it is really rigid, more than enough for a splitter.

Got it from a local place near me called, plastics4u

Had it on for a year or two...... It is quite subtile to be honest and after doing some aero reasearch could do with being 50mm longer. Someone took a pic at pvs, ill try and find it.... I should start taking pictures of my own car lol

Decided to use 3mm aluminium composite, road signs are made out of it and its rigid as fuck.

thanks for helping me reach this conclusion

You might need a top gear wing to help with the down force at high speed.

Will you be removing it at all??

Not having a dig about not doing trackdays etc, but how do you know that it won't make the car perform worse?? Are you going on the assumption that it will make it better because it makes a difference to other cars?? Or is it just form over function now??

Your car has changed massively since it was last on track. How will you know you are getting the best out of it and havn't over stepped the limits in certain area's??

Imo you need to just park it up and leave it till the trackday comes. Then start messing about with wooden splitters afterwards.

What about stuff like servicing and timing belt etc, have you done all that??

People get awfully concerend and excitable when i make changes to my car, its like they have personally invested money in my own race team.

Do this, why did you do that, why arent you driving it on track.

Now people are aero experts, what if it performs worse, what if it creates more drag, what if it takes off on a conveyor belt etc.

I appreciate your concern from each and every one of you fucking lovely gentlemen, but can we start to realise that it really isnt anything for you to worry and lose sleep about. Its 100% my race team here.

It seems there is some confusion here, so lets clear this up.

What I asked for
What is a good material to make a DIY Splitter out of

What I didnt ask for
Peoples opinion on wether the car should go on track
Peoples expert analysis of Aerodynamics
People telling me the car has changed so much it now has hoverboards bolted to the hubs in place of wheels, is running on flux capacators and that fitting a splitter could land me back in 1853

Based on what? I find it most incredible that you have already calculated the co-efficient drag for a splitter that hasnt even been made yet.

not being funny Steve but what do you expect on a public forum

Its a little bit like your rage quit last time

I think deep down you know the responses you will get hence why you post them.

However car is looking good as always and i am sure which path you take with this aero change it will be done to a high standard

you dont want it very thin...
you dont want it to flex
you want it to extend under the engine

10mm ply/hardboard is good enough and cheap to replace aswell as easy to work with

also - chassis mount it so any forces arent just flexing the bumper.

I.e make brackets to hang it to/

On Fee's the spiltter mounts to brackets (with riv nuts) so the bumper can slide on / off with the splitter still in place or vice versa.

Hers is just 10mm painted wood.

Have a read of last months trackdriver or maybe the month before - they have interesting articles on this type of aero
