If I had 20k and wasn't fussed about brand new, there is not a hope in hell I would spend it on a Vauxhall.

The reason James is saying don't spend £20k on a Vauxhall because yes the power train is great (if not slightly uneconomical in this climate) inside it is a Vauxhall, which is no different to a Vectra but the Australian version. Which means its plastic fantastic with cheap cabin materials and a lack of refinement compared to a German Audi/BMW which is a level of quality perceived with purchasing a performance saloon. It doesn't mean its "bad" its just not on the same planet compared to its more expensive rivals. This is not badge snobbery its about one product being designed better. Before you all jump on the Vauxhall allegiance bandwagon the VXR8 is a great car, made out of an AVERAGE car because of the engine. The M3/Audi is a great car made out of a PREMIUM car. That's the difference.

I have spent many hours in a VXR8 as a mate owns one, and I love it. However i think some of you will be dissapointed as being a large car they lose a lot of the sensation of speed you get so it never feels that quick (much like my M3) but it is.

Also, you are comparing the M3 to a VXR8 when really its competitor is the M5 a much larger car.

I may also point out that he was put off by 8-10mpg from the M5's V10 and will be able to acheive similar results from the VXR8 so is not really a great choice.

OP- Have you thought about a more mediocre child wagon and something special for the garage?!

Exactly, I already have to tell them I drive a Vauxhall, imagine if I had to tell them I had spent £20k on one? How embarrassing, need to get rid ASAP.

Just say you bought it for a laugh as £20k is peanuts anyway. Found the money down the back of the sofa.

Where did I say that? I said if I had to buy brand new I would get the high spec Vauxhall (or equivalent), but I would never buy brand new, I'd rather get a slightly older Porsche/BMW etc.

Just the way you say driving a Vauxhall is embarrassing, I presume they're not executive enough.

The bit about it being embarrassing was a sarcastic response to Nath.

I wouldn't be embarrassed to drive a Vauxhall (I do drive one), I'd be a bit embarrassed if I had spent £20k on one though.

Thought it sounded a great deal at the time

Thats the reason I'd buy the M3 if I was the OP, it's going to drop next to nothing in the next 2yrs.

Im with Whitter. They have been high priced for too long, soon as they hit 6yrs old it will start to plummet. Thats any minute now IIRC.
