I think I have a plain machined metal ball one somewhere, think its a screw on one.

its a lot weaker with the feet like that... more prone to 'folding' for example. Simple boxing in the ends will give much more strength to them. If you used the car for any events that may require a cage it may fail scruitineering like that... may... still, a good thing to do even if you arent

one of those with the correct insert for 6 speed would be ideal actually. just had a go with one which sounds wrong.
